Stamile CV's - Growth Habits, success you've had?
Comments (28)I posted earlier about Tranquil Waters... a GREAT plant. I grow a few more Stamiles' on this thread right now. Here's my take: ABSOLUTE TREASURE- Gorgeous flower. Major rust magnet in my garden. I love the bloom and keep the plant, but I wouldn't recommend it based on the rust-magnet factor. I have several Stamile plants within touching distance and they are regularly unaffected. DRUID'S CHANT - Grows right next to ABSOLUTE TREASURE in my garden and is alway vigorous. I divided it in July (we've had a drought this year) and didn't do anything special to the pieces I put back in the ground. They look like they were never disturbed. Great plant - I highly recommend it! ALL FIRED UP - Amazing plant. Even though I'm not fond of oranges, this is one of my favorite plants year after year. Great blooms, great foliage, great plant. BLUEBERRY FROST - Almost tossed this one last year. I've had it for 3-4 years and it never did much. This summer, WOWEEWOW! Even though we had a pretty bad drought, BLUEBERRY FROST was an amazing performer. RAINBOW EYE - much nicer now that I've moved it to a place where it gets some afternoon shade. In all-day sun, it has a tendency to scape-blast in my garden. I was going to get rid of all of it last summer - dug it and didn't do anything with it. Last December, I planted it in my garden (it had been on my back porch in a grocery bag since July) and said,"if you live, you live." I told myself that I would sell it all at my Daylily Club's public sale (July 2007) if it lived. It was so pretty in its new spot that it never made it to the public sale. :) LAVENDER RAINBOW - What a great plant! Beautiful blooms, great plant habit. I love this one! CHANCE ENCOUNTER - Lovely and vigorous. LET LOOSE - I didn't think I would like Spiders - this one changed my way of thinking. I needed tall and yellow so I took a chance. It is currently the only thing blooming in my garden, although WILD AND FREE (Stamile), has put another scape. I love-love-love this plant!! CERISE MASTERPIECE - I brought this one home from the Stamile garden last April. It is a magnificent plant. Tall scapes, large blooms, amazing color. Comments (133)Another dozen quarts of dill pickles, this time the Polish type. also blanched about 50 ears of corn and cut the kernals off for the freezer. Some are now in a big cookie sheet in the freezer, so they won't form big clumps when bagged. This new corn zipper took a little time to get used to, but its now very easy to strip rows of kernals off each cob about two at a time. I tried using the circular one with side handles, but it seemed to bind and dig into the cobs, then I tried the long yellow mandoline style with a curved blade and that was fairly easy to use, but should have beebn designed to be more curved as it nicks several rows of kernals which makes for a bit more bits and pieces. The zipper is all stainless and does a neat job of removing the rows two at a time. It takes less than 20 seconds to cut off all the kernals off a cob....See MorePeter Piper picked a peck of purples....
Comments (13)mantis: Because the ownroots (bands or even 1 gallons) are miniscule when you buy them from the specialty nurseries and the grafted are available in 2.5 gallon or 5 gallon sizes here in Chicago. The extra girth and canes help them sail through my winters. All I do is make sure I plant the bud union really deep and hope they'll eventually go own-root. I've grown ownroot HTs/floribundas in the past and every single one died- the grafted are amazing. Mind you, I am only discussing HTs. If you haven't posted yet, you should be receiving and email from me. Just want to be sure the seeds get there safely. So glad that everyone seems pleased with their selections! I really enjoyed hosting the swap again, but have to admit it has been nice getting back to planting seeds, potting up sprouts, cleaning up the garden beds, etc. Too nice to be inside sorting seeds now : ) Hope to see everyone again next year!!! 9 years agoThose look delicious and beautiful. I've been working today with a half bucket of mixed jalapenos, poblanos, sweet Romanian and some banana peppers. I ended up making spicy hot pepper mustard. Are you having that long and unusually mild weather we're having?
I also got these today, roasted them and put the flesh into the freezer for future baba ganouj...

9 years agoOh yeah. All kinds of goodies from the garden have been collected before the frost.
In addition, found these hiding behind some bushes. Sulfur Shelves (Chicken Of The Woods) and a Giant Puff Ball (10").

Ha I am not a mushroom specialist - I won't eat/harvest mushrooms without an expert id.
I have an area near my house that isn't mowable or tillable because of rocks and stumps. My digging dog created a pseudo prairie dog community there. I had been dumping leaves and debris there for a bit. This spring I put a bunch of wet hay from my banking there. Then watered a bunch and added nitrogen to break down the hay. I planted buckwheat and squash there. I ended up with a bumper crop of small/medium squash.
Anyhow this fall I got a huge crop of honey mushrooms and blewits growing in the broken down organic matter.
