One of my childhood friends last name is "Heine"

I had a friend in California who's last name was "Hyman"

My Daughter's Bride's made was a "Fochs" Pronouced like the "F" word.

If your last name was Butt and you married a Barker. You would have a Butt-Barker Wedding Annoucement. LOL! One of my Clients.

My Son's Pediatrician was Dr. Paine. Had a hard time getting him to go. LOL!

My cousin's name is Bob Loblaw. When you say it together it sounds like bahblahblah. I once had a customer named Judith Rawass. The first time I had to say it, I pronounced it like RayWass. She promptly corrected me and said "it's pronounced Raw Ass." Don't think I could live with that one!

My DH is chinese and his surname was Yuk, but in chinese it doesn't rhyme with 'luck' because the k is silent, so it's pronounced more like the french word 'Dieu.' However, when he came to Canada at 16, of course everyone pronounced it like Yuck, so he changed it to York. Now it's funny because when people hear our surname, they assume he took mine when we married, since the name York obviously isn't Chinese and I'm of British heritage.

I am not in upstate New York, but in zone 6 downstate Illinois. I was using the search feature for something completely different when I saw how many people had responded to this old post and knew it would be a treasure trove. Many of the things listed are things I have heard about before, but I had never created a list. Just prayed I'd remember what not to get or what to be careful with at planting time. Thought someone else might like this in list form. I still plan to go back through and add the latin botanical name where missing. There are a few things that I didn't put on this list. Ornamental grass, for instance, since the type wasn't mentioned and there are huge differences depending on the species. So, here's the list I came up with. Thank you for helping me to create the beginnings of a good reference file. Aggressive / Invasive plants -- The following list began with plants that gardeners in zone 5 and 6 on the Upstate New York gardening forum found to be invasive. Some noted that âinvasiveâ is somewhat objective and depends on where the plant is located. In the book Paradise Lot the authors sometimes put aggressive plants that they liked to have around on purpose in an area of the garden not ideal for that plant. I.e. in shade rather than sun. At some point I should perhaps mark the plants below with a rating system to distinguish the ânever, never, never plant thisâ from the ones that might be good to use in certain situations. Achillea millefolium ssp. Yarrow Aegopodium Bishopâs weed aka gout Weed; aka snow-on-the-mountain Ajuga ï¿½ï¿½" Someone in New York doesnât like it. Ours is a good ground cover. Anemone Canadensis anthriscus sylvestris 'Ravenswing' dark leaf form of common cow parsley Artemisia I get the feeling some types are okay. Artemisia âOriental Limelightâ Beautiful when small; will swallow your whole garden! Very invasive. Years to eradicate. Huge. Roots run vigorously. Tap root deep. Balloon flower Bittersweet (I think this is also called Virginia creeper.) chameleon plant Chinese lanterns Cleome Annual. Prolific self-seeder. Might be good if the self-seeding is desired. Comfrey Apparently huge, fast growing and deep rooted. Lily of the valley Many, many warnings, although some would like to grow it and canât. Creeping Charlie Echinacea purpurea purple cone flower Several mentions. I like it and like the self-seeding. Echinops GLOBE THISTLE Prolific self-seeder, Butâ¦awesome looking and attracts humming birds. Feverfew Fennel, bronze ï¿½ï¿½" Self seeds vigorously; person commenting liked this trait. Well, a bit more progress to show. I was out of town for part of last week, but while I was gone they removed most of the siding from the back of the house where the kitchen addition will be and removed the screen porch. Since then they have also removed most of the siding around the upstairs slider that will be replaced with windows. Hopefully our permits will be returned this week and we'll have a foundation hole and the slab from the screen porch will be cut back to make room for the addition (the first 3' of it are in the way).

No big dogs. 40 lbs max for me. I like dogs that I don't have to buy a truck to transport. I don't like dogs with smashed in faces much. Although I have met some I like personally, I don't think I could stand to hear them wheezing. They seem to have such a hard time in hot weather. Don't like german shepherds much, they kind of scare me, I have known so many over the years that were vicious. Would never ever own a dog that was even part pit bull. Exceedingly yappy dogs, like schnauzers, and chihuahuas. Although I don't mind dogs that bark, just those non-stop high-pitched yappers. I like the terrier breeds and I like (and have owned several) dachshunds. Longhaired ones because they are more mellow than the smooth haireds. But unfortunately the american breeding trend is to breed them smaller and smaller miniature sized. WAY too small for me. So I doubt I will get another unless I can find a breeder of the standard size ones (rare in america). No teeny tiny dogs that you could kill if you accidentally stepped on it. cicidae: Most shih tzus that I have known have such great personalities. My aunt had two, my co-worker has two, my sister has one. So friendly. Owned a border collie. Great dog to train, too high of an energy level unless you have a big fenced in yard. This goes for most shepherd breeds and hunting breeds as well. No retrievers, for some reason that oil on their skin makes me sneeze. And I live on a river so those retrievers would not get out of there I am sure. Nice and stinky. Cocker spaniel: that breed has been ruined by overbreeding. I have known several that have severe personality problems. Completely untrainable.

It was June last year that I commented on this thread. Some updates: Falstaff was removed. I had enough after some serious pampering this spring without a single flower. I did love those (rare) flowers though. Madame Isaac Pereire died. It was in too dry a spot after all. My tears dried after putting my nose into Alnwick Castle. Evelyn. Moved to a sunnier position and they have taken off. Keeping them. Alexandra Duchesse de Luxembourg. My opinion hasn't changed. Doesn't thrill me. I don't hate it. From a distance it does catch the eye since the flowers are so large. She's in a holding pattern for now. Claire Austin was removed. I just didn't like yellow color fading to dirty newspaper color. Blech. Old Blush. it's still there. I'm getting used to those flowers with poor form and strident color. Pure Perfume. I discovered that they need more sun and water, but I have no place to move them to. Keeping them for now. Radio Times, moved to a pampered pot, grew a little, but never seems happy. Will not stay in my garden. William Shakespeare 2000. I discovered that the problem really is that they need more water. I may put them in pots. Off the chopping block. So I was somewhat right: some of the "eh" factor was due to cultural factors. But not all. These are now in the "eh" column: Sonia Rykiel. Flowers don't take the heat. Not very fragrant in my yard (maybe next year). Doesn't produce those glorious flowers that Fragrancenutter shows. Doesn't really want to grow. My second plant died and I've already replaced it with another Alnwick Castle. Dee-lish. Happy to grow, happy to bloom, lovely fragrance, but to my eye, not very pretty. Winchester Cathedral. It's there, it blooms well in the spring, with very short-lived flowers, then a few flowers here and there the rest of the summer. Weird fragrance. Doesn't wow me. In my garden it's just a nondescript white rose without a lot of flowers. Iceberg. I really like the fragrance, but after the spring show, the flower form is lost, and the leaves always look sickly yellow. I may replace them with Desdemona, or Bolero, or ...

The football coach at our high school has the name, Dickie Dingle. I didn't believe it at first, but it's true.
There are some pretty embarrasssing names listed here. But ya know, it's all because society chose to use terms for human anatomy, that belong to people, as their names. I would venture to say, the names came first!

One time, I was sent to an extraction specialist to have a tooth removed. The name on their sign board: Doctors Peck and Hurty.

The name 'Glasscock' reminded me on when my mom got on a kick about not using profanity when we were growing up. My brothers took it to an extreme and anything remotely 'dirty' was cleaned up. My brothers had a friend with the last name 'Glasscock'. He is still referred to as 'Porcelain Penis'.

This name soesn't sound bad on the surface, but I wouldn't like the last name of MISTER. As a school secretary I had to call the Mister's home a couple of times. Think it's fun to ask to speak to Mr. Mister? Or even Mrs. Mister?

We once had a CHILD in our school named Pocahantas....I ALMOST lost it when her Dad came in to register the poor child for school....It was all I could do to keep a straight face.

I went to school (7th-12th grade) with a nice girl who's last name was Horney. I felt so bad for her. She seemed well-adjusted regardless. :-)

The young boy next door is from the Ukraine. His given name is Vladamir but before they moved here, when he was just a toddler, the parents nicknamed him Vova but they way they pronouce it, it sounds like vulva. I was just commenting how the boy (now 12) looks depressed all the time. Gee, I wonder why. LOL

When I was a kid I would have given anything not to have my last name. I don't think any kid would want the word "bottom" in any part of their name. LOL Now I wouldn't change it even if I got married.

Peck, Poisson are names of families I grew up with in my neighbourhood. I used to play in Peck's Orchard - instead of saying pick a peck of peppers we would say pick a peck of apples. My SIL was a Pratt, my other SIL was a Lemon. My Dad used to tease my SIL and say my brother married a lemon. LOL

Everytime I hear the name Noseworthy I always wonder how that name came to be. Did they have long noses or did they use their noses in a perfumery, etc.

I know some Winterbottom's and Sidebottoms.

We have a customer with the last name of Woodcock. His first name is Richard. Wonder if he goes by Dick? I would change my name. Seriously.

How did they ever get Dick out of Richard anyway? I've never gotten that.

My name is Baker ... but didn't get "half-baked" in school enough for me to remember it.

Dad was Richard - and everyone called him Dick.

No one paid any attention to it, as far as I know.

Brother the same, but called "Richard" through school.

I worked with a young girl with the last name of Dickout.
There is a well to do family in our city with the last name of Hole and one of the son's name is Harry.
I also work with a guy who's last name is Noseworthy. Also there is a guy I work with who's last name is Aspol but when we page him it sounds like A$$hole, so we just page by his first name only. A girl I went to highschool with married a guy with the last name Cocks. I think I would have changed the spelling to Cox.

I worked with a lovely woman whose last name was Fincke. When she was pregnant she joked that she would name her children Ima or Anita. The irony is that everyone else in her husband's family changed their last names to the much prettier sounding Finch when they came to the US from Germany.

I knew a Dr. Lemongelli - not a bad name but I'm sure he was teased that his name was pronounced lemon jelly.

I girl I knew had Buzzard as a maiden name. She used to tell people it was pronounced Buz-ZARD, but didn't fool anybody.

I worked with a girl who's last name was Butts - she married a guy named Chandler. They divorced; she kept his name. No surprise.

A few years back when we were traveling,
I would look at names in the phone directory to see if there were any names we knew.
One stood out when I was looking through the A's.
That was "Athole". I felt sorry for the Guy with that name.

When I was a kid through my teens my dentist was Dr. Crook.

I went to a podiatrist (foot doctor)a few years ago named Dr. Foote and his office was on Foote Ave.

I saw lots of strange names when I worked at an insurance company. I think the worst was Penis. It was French doncha know and pronounced Pee-Nay.

When I had my kidney out the Dr.'s name was Wei. My doctor said we call him Dr.Wee Wee in urology. It is actually pronounced Way.

I am working on data entry for a marriage certificate index and just ran across a bride with a maiden name of Rumphol. Bet she was glad to change her name.

I mentioned before about customers with the names of Longerbone and Dicklitch. Always makes me laugh.

I lived in Apt. #69 on Wunderlich Drive in Houston.

Really, I kept my Drivers License for a long time. My zip code ended in 69, too!

When my family went to my youngest sisters graduation a couple years ago, Amanda Crapper won just about every award you can imagine. After they would call her name we all would chuckle. I'd hate to have crapper as my last name. At least she can marry outta it. I went from Zaragoza to Pyles. Oh well- Smile247

My last name is ''Large'', just like the size. I try sometimes to pronounce it ''Large-a'' long A sound, but it isn't french, it is just stupid. I tried to make my hubby take my last name, but he wasn't having it.

My ob/gyn is a nice woman named dr. cave, my foot doctor is a nice man named dr. handcock, and I had a former employee who married a man with the last name of ''head'', his first name was Richard, so you know his nickname. No joke. One friend of mine had the last name of ''Bugg'', and another co-worker of mine is ''Small''.
