Well, wouldn't you know it.....Demo Started Today

Yep -

We got our zoning permit yesterday (required in our town before construction permits can be applied for). Our contractor wanted to be sure we had no zoning issues before starting demolition.

So, with that hurdle cleared, we are now the proud "owners" of a 30 yard dumpster and the crew arrived to start tearing down the old screen-porch/deck that is in the way of the kitchen addition. The screen porch (sans deck will be rebuild slightly smaller....

Its a nice feeling to finally have some progress to show....

as of now, the deck is gone...more pics to come (these are from this morning).

Isn't it fun to get started???!! Congrats on getting your project underway and I can't wait to see more pics.

Thanks - its definitelt exciting - but more exciting will be a new hole, etc, etc, etc...

We never sat out there to begin with - which is why we're not replacing the deck. The whole thing was structurally unsound in the first place.

Now we are deckless -

Annececelia...you will probably get more comments if you post again on the discussion side. The "gallery" is a pretty sleepy area. But....I was really pleased to see your post. Several months ago I bought a Blue Dragon. While looking at examples and descriptions on various sites, I realized my leaves are "wrong"...even more so than yours. I would describe mine as quite ruffley. It wasn't quite so obvious when I bought it, but they are getting much more ruffled as time goes on. The new blooms are about to open, so I may have another surprise. I'm guessing there is a very large plant with ruffled leaves in its genetic background. I was beginning to think mine was mismarked (have had that happen too).

I'd take THAT heat flash over the ones I get...lol That's very pretty Lucy. Justin and Tonya left for "home" yesterday...They should be back in Texas in a couple/few days...I miss them SOOOOO much already :( Funny you say that about Precious, Ariel goes in Thursday to get spayed...Then she needs groomed, but gonna wait til she feels better for that. Have a great day...I'm going to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet today...lol

That happened to me once... except it was my own kitty... Miss Kitty was her name. She would sit on a railroad tie wall waiting on me to get home, then jump down and run across the drive and be sitting at the front door to go in. This was an icy day and she slipped on the icy drive way and slid under the car. It was horrible.. I knew what had happened, I felt it. I could not even look, I just went in the house and called my husband at work. He came home and took the car to get it cleaned up, it was just awful.. a nice man that lived next door came and buried her. That was 30 years ago and I still feel bad about it...

Hope it works out for the same building but remember, sometimes things can even be an improvement in a different place. Maybe there's even some advantages to the other place? Check it out so you know. I sure understand your reluctance to leave the building. I know I like to stay with a "known commodity" or at least the "devil(s) you know" when possible but have learned that things can work out to be even better at times. If the renters have given notice, they should be able to confirm to you that it'll be available. I don't see any reason why they couldn't. How far away is the other one? I'd try to keep that one available. Talk to the landlord or manager and just tell them it's important to know so you can decide. You really should get it in writing too so they don't talk you into staying and then not get the apartment after giving up the other option. Although I suppose you'd have to give notice there to move to the other building too. Hoping for the best and keeping fingers crossed for you. I'm sure all will be fine. BTW, if I can be of any help when you move, let me know. Be glad to do what I can.

Get out there with a sledge (or other implement of destruction of your choosing) and take a couple of swings. It will feel great, and you'll always know you contributed.

It definitely is exciting!!!!

We did go out and rip out some of the screens on our own yesterday. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll have any progress to show today.

Its quite cold here today and we had a dusting of snow, so we'll see. Might be later this afternoon.....

Well, a bit more progress to show.

I was out of town for part of last week, but while I was gone they removed most of the siding from the back of the house where the kitchen addition will be and removed the screen porch.

Since then they have also removed most of the siding around the upstairs slider that will be replaced with windows.

Hopefully our permits will be returned this week and we'll have a foundation hole and the slab from the screen porch will be cut back to make room for the addition (the first 3' of it are in the way).

We just demoed my kithcen yesterday. Isn't it a crazy feeling? Exhilirating that the process has started yet a little scary at the same time.

Well, more of an update.

Yesterday they came with the backhoe

and left us with a hole

We passed inspection of the footing area/rebar, and the concrete truck is due in half an hour. Block will be delivered Monday with foundation insepection on Wednesday and backfill on Friday.

We're moving along....
