x-post: Countertops and Backsplash Decisions
Comments (6)Thanks Upa! So you'd stick with the Cambria Whitney I have pictured? Or go with the marble? :) I'm having the house painted by the builder in Dunn Edwards White. It's just a white white. Which will basically be a base coat. Then, I'm hiring painters to come do the actual painting. Apparently the guys I've hired are awesome with color - as in some people just let them pick. I'm too involved for that, but I'm looking forward to their suggestions. I'd do something safe like a soft/cool gray, but I probably need to get some color going. Suggestions on that? =) The good news is, because I'm hiring my own painters after the fact, I don't have to decide color now. I can do that once the house is finished. Whew. One decision I can postpone. I will get it done before I move in, however... given that I have 4 dogs. :) Oh, and I will leave the baseboards and trim the white....See MoreBacksplash / Countertop Decision
Comments (63)Thanks a lot for all those inspiration! We liked the small mosaic idea a lot. However, it turns out all the ones we found requires some special ordering (taking 1~2 weeks), and our contractor is coming tomorrow! We probably will settle with what's currently in stock. Still looking! But again thanks for the inspiration photos and suggestions, really helpful!...See MoreNeeding help choosing coordinating floors, counter top and backsplash
Comments (12)thank you, what did you mean by "I would not take up the charge of the sink"? Do you mean you wouldn't bother replacing? Regarding the flooring....the rest of the house has the old school 3/4" oak flooring so if I change the flooring to hardwood in the kitchen and entryway, I would have to change out all the hardwood in the living room and kitchen. This was my thought process anyway. I did check out the cost and for the flooring I like, it would be a lot of $. To answer your question, the sq footage of the combined entry way and kitchen which is currently tiled, is about 170 sq ft. what did you mean about backsplash? I was thinking black granite counter top and then a simple backsplash and yes I def want a coordinated look. warm, inviting and not choppy and misfitting. thanks again...See Morehelp! Comments (5)I'd go w a slate look vinyl tile. and the middle choice of the formica in row of five. A mini trac lite above sink and serpentine one in center of kitchen will assist w lighting . Then the slate look floor will ground the space/not be so dark and help the oak go for another lease on life as per your decision.... [ consider swap of some uppers for glass doors] . Not sure about beige sand cream floor tones...just get a slate look /classic/ hard to beat....See MoreRelated Professionals
