Feedback on water heater prices and configurations

Sorry for the long post but have been struggling with several quotes to resolve my home water heating and hydronic baseboard situation. Hoping the pros on this forum can offer some advice.

Background

  • Live in in 1,000 sq ft condo in the Northeast

  • Have a gas fired tankless water heater that provides both domestic hot water and hydronic heating

  • After 10 years, the tankless heater has failed and needs to be replaced

  • The tankless heater has been a problem from the 1st year. Main issues have been insufficient heat to heat a full bath during the colds months of Jan/Feb and turning off on very cold days (exactly when we actually need it)

  • Given my experience with tankless heaters, I am very reluctant to buy one again.

  • All equipment must be able to fit in a medium size closet that is off to the side of a main room (so anything needs to be very quiet)

I have had 2 plumbers and 2 HVAC specialists evaluate the situation and provide estimates. They are all over the place in both costs and system configurations. All 4 specialist are highly rated on Angies Lists. A key constraint with possible systems has been the size of the closet where everything must fit.

Options

1. Weil Mclain EG 35 gas fired hot water boiler and tankless domestic hot water coil. Installed price of $7,450.

2. Bradford White Combi 2 TTW DW2-TW50T10FBN 50 gallon water heater tank with internal space heating coil. Installed $6175. This use separates domestic hot water from hydronic

  1. Bradford White Combi 2 RG2PV50HGN 50 gallon water heater tank with internal space heating coil. Installed $4575 . This unit combines domestic hot water with hydronic.

4. Plumber is still working on models and quote but trying to configure a standard hot water heater and link it to a separate heat exchanger.

Questions

1. Any views on which of the three configurations is best? It would seem to me that less complexity is better so leaning towards option 4 if they can find appropriately sized components.

2.It seems both Weil Mclain and Bradford White have historically been solid brands but am reading some horror stories about poor quality and service over the past 5 years or so. Any view on these brands and alternatives?

3. I am concerned about the possible noise level of the Weil Mclan boiler. This will be installed closed to a living space and I really don't want to hear it run or fans. Any experience with sound levels?

4. Am also concerned about noise level of the Bradford white since they have vented fans. How quite are these when they run?

5. Any feedback on the prices quoted? They seem really high to me, especially the Weil McLain quote.

6. Key criteria to me is sufficient hot water for the coldest days of the year and low noise level. Out of the three configurations (boiler, Combi or separate units) does one of these align better with my needs?

Many thanks for any feedback!
