2016 October Block Lotto

This lotto is open to all and new quilters are encouraged to participate. You will learn much and have fun doing it. Even if you don't like the current month's block think about doing at least one. The winner will appreciate your efforts!

Here's the drill:

- you can send 1, 2 or 3 blocks

- all blocks must measure 12.5inches x 12.5 inches with no more than 1/4" variation please. With your blocks include name, mailing address, forum name and $1 to cover postage for the winning blocks.

- if possible, either attach your name to the back of each block or write your name in the seam allowance with a fabric pen so the winner knows who made the block (this is not a requirement, just a request)

- all blocks received by the last day of the month will be included in the lotto drawing

- you will have 1, 2 or 3 chances to win, depending on how many blocks you've sent in.

Blocks are to be mailed to Linda. She will arrange the collection and dispersal to the winner. If you need her mailing address, you may request it by sending her a message at linda at schultz-assoc.com

Well it pays to read instructions...which I didn't to start with...ugh. So I started making the October block, but I used 2 1/2" strips, not 1 1/2".... I now have what will become a lovely floor pillow. So I started again, made a big mess,

but finally made one log cabin block :-) . It will be mailed on Monday....

Love these blocks...I may make more for me since I have the mess started!!! LOL...

Wow, those are so pretty, Jennifer! I am having a time finding the fabrics! I need to get a 'feel' for this. Black center, then lights to darks, I guess?? I've found shades of turquoise, but no purples.

Well, believe it or not, the drawing is quite a ritual to me. I get as excited as if I'm gonna be the winner, and can't wait to find out where the jackpot goes. I pulled them around two in the morning, right before I went to bed. I have so many UFOs up there, that I really didn't realistically want to start on another project until I get a few finished. Had I wanted to win some of the lottos I would have asked a neutral party to do the drawing, so I could've been in on it. I always like to participate, however, so I can see firsthand the level of difficulty and gain the learning experience from a new pattern. I knew you were particularly anxious to win this pattern, so was happy for you when your name stuck to my fingers, LOL. Is that the power of positive thinking? The blocks sent in this month were just darling. You all did a wonderful job. Odessa, I unexpectedly went out and bought a new car yesterday. LOL. So I'll be tied up a day or two getting that picked up and the running done to title and plate it. But, I'll get your blocks out sometime this week.

Well, we have a winner! These blocks are heading out today to Georgia. It's you Jennifer/jit. There are only 11 but they are larger blocks and you are perfectly capable of making one more for a 3 x 4 layout. Congratulations.

Thanks, Beth. Yes, Kona black center, then light to dark. I thought going light to dark on the off-white side was a bit of a challenge. Recently, I saw a helpful tip recommending to put your fabrics in order and then take a black and white photo to help verify the ombre effect. I'll have to try that next time. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I got home from vacation to such a nice surprise on my porch. 23 beautiful blocks. 9 purple, 8 teal/jade and 6 combo. Thank you all so very much.

I finished the flimsy with the log cabin blocks. It will make a twin quilt that will fit pretty well on the bed in my sewing room. I just have to get it quilted now. I'll send it out to someone to do an edge-to-edge pantogram on it. Does anyone have any recommendations on pattern or thread color.

The blocks went together really well. Thank you all for your contributions.

I forgot about your question. Personally, I think there's too much of the light colors to use a blue or purple thread to quilt it, although many folks like that look. And I definitely wouldn't use a stark white. I think a cream, taupe or light tan color might work best. Ask your longarmer. S/he would have a lot of experience in that regard.

I love it. I love the way it turned out. I'm so glad you shared. I wanted to make a log cabin quilt when I first decided to make a quilt. Everyone advised against it because of being a beginner. Once again, I'm sure I want to make a log cabin quilt.
