Sometimes you just have to shake things up . . .

So . . we continued to get the runaround from our framer about timing. In the meantime, the lumber had already been delivered to our site (against my instruction to the lumber yard) so, not only were we delayed . . or lumber was just out there for the taking.

Ended up parting ways with the flakey framers and got a crew who is ready to work. They showed up as promised at 8:30 this morning. Let the fun begin!

Good for you, Jennifer! We've had to deal with what feels like more than our fair share of flakes with this build so I hope this is your one and only for your build.

Don, you could be right. We probably have a whole new department just for designing plates. Then, there's all the people involved in the contest. It really boggles the mind when you think about all the jobs this one thing has created. (personally, I think our new governor is buying votes the only way he knows) I think, but not sure, that we are one of the few states where the plates are still made in prisons, by prison labor. Maybe we should move that process out into the private sector.

In about 1980 or 1981, Texas had a horrible heat wave. The temps did not go under 100 degrees for something like 27 days. Although we lived in the southwest area of Dallas, & driving was torture, one night after work my roommate wanted to go to Prestonwood Mall, about a 45 minute drive. She was insistent. We hadn't been in that air-conditioned mall 5 minutes before someone called, "Evie!" It was an old classmate from her high school in Clovis, New Mexico! ........ ........ An old friend told me that she sometimes has those spur-of-the-moment changes of, uh, plan? heart? mind?, but hers are usually of the dodge-the-bullet variety. She thinks maybe it's her guardian fairy angel godmother. One day, she said her car "just turned in to Baskin-Robbins", she didn't know why. So she & went in & bought a carton of milk. might as well... Got back in the car, resumed her journey, & saw, less than a minute down the road, a car just like hers smashed into a tractor-trailer rig. The paramedics were cutting away the car to get the driver out. still gives me chills.

What's this, cynic - you brought tinder ... but no matches/(lighter?)? Yesterday, I visited the snowmobile-accident-confined landlord in the hospital, then went to United Way to work on this year's list of charities that my tax-free-capitaI-gain-stock-when-sold-to-support-a-charity is to assist. Then came to this city library till I'd planned to visit my son ... ... visiting the bathroom on arrival and, after my two-hour limit on the city's computer ... ... again when I stood to leave. On becoming aware that my bag was no longer with me ...pretty sure I didn't pick up my bag n the bathroom at the time of the second visit. Returning today ... no report of a bag turned in. Didn't take it in to son's place, or to a store or two I visited. Did someone pinch it out of the car? Whatever ... the stuff in it is no longer available. Guess I'll have to start out my accumulate my (bag-carried) stash of survival stuff all over again. Wait a minute - my bank book was in there, too! (Rarely-used credit card ... in wallet in my pocket). Oh, well!!!! ole joyful ... most of the time.

Isn't that just the hardest smell to get out of fur? Mom's Cavalier Spaniel was sprayed right in the face. She tried everything, even the groomer said she had no definite cure for it so don't bring him in. Finally it was just a matter of letting it "wear off". As mentioned, on wet days you could still smell it faintly. agmiss, how did you do the emoji? I wasn't aware they could be used them here on these forums.

Good for you!

Don't know how far you are from the lumberyard. But my rule is never to leave more lumber on site than can be used up in one or two days tops. Otherwise it will walk away. One site in a dicier neighbourhood, every piece of unused plywood @$50 per sheet was loaded onto my trailer and back to my driveway every night. Soon as the doors and windows were in, the alarm was activated.

Worthy - I told our lumber guy to deliver our lumber Monday afternoon. He took it upon himself to have it delivered Friday afternoon. Said he wanted to make sure we had it when the framers showed up. If he'd have waited until Monday after like I told him, I could have rescheduled it Monday morning when I found out our framers flaked out . . .AGAIN. Don't think I didn't let the lumber yard rep know I was unhappy about his executive decision.

imstillchloecat - Yes . . . that is a safe room in the center. Necessary household item when you live in tornado alley (Oklahoma).
