Serendipity -- and isn't it wonderful when it occurs!

Agnes, i like to think of it as serendipity. I know that's sort of thew same as coincidence, but it has a happier connotation for me.

Just remember, now that you've reconnected with your old friend, follow-up & get together with her. You've got 40 years to catch up on.

I ran into a friend from high school over the summer and it turned out she lives right across the major road from me. Then, I didn't see her again until last month. I ran into her at Chuck E Cheese and then two days later I spotted her walking her dog and I stopped my car to say hello. She commented that there must be a reason why we kept running into eachother after all this time. I went to her home two weeks ago for a small get together and we are going out tonight.

In about 1980 or 1981, Texas had a horrible heat wave.
The temps did not go under 100 degrees for something like 27 days.

Although we lived in the southwest area of Dallas, & driving was torture, one night after work my roommate wanted to go to Prestonwood Mall, about a 45 minute drive.
She was insistent.

We hadn't been in that air-conditioned mall 5 minutes before someone called, "Evie!"

It was an old classmate from her high school in Clovis, New Mexico!

An old friend told me that she sometimes has those spur-of-the-moment changes of, uh, plan? heart? mind?, but hers are usually of the dodge-the-bullet variety.

She thinks maybe it's her guardian fairy angel godmother.

One day, she said her car "just turned in to Baskin-Robbins", she didn't know why.

So she & went in & bought a carton of milk.

Got back in the car, resumed her journey, & saw, less than a minute down the road, a car just like hers smashed into a tractor-trailer rig.

The paramedics were cutting away the car to get the driver out.

still gives me chills.

I just met a woman at a party here who used to visit a close friend of hers who lived for twenty years across the street from me in LA ~ she had met me at a Trivial Pursuit Party at his house!

She now lives in Seattle, she was visiting an old friend of hers who lives in my town which is a couple of hours away. Our mutual friend is sadly now dead, but for a we reminisced about him and how much he'd meant to both of us.
Bill was alive again for an hour and he would have loved to see this connection.

Lost touch with a good friend becuase of several out of state moves by the both of us and two unlisted numbers. I was missing her one day,a lot actually,and out of the clear blue sky stopped what I was doing and put on the tv and there was the Country Music channel. I really dislike most country music and never watched that channel since we had just recently gotten cable and I wasn't even aware of it. There was her husband,who apparently had become a tv chef. I couldn't believe it. I sent him a letter via the station,my friend wrote back the next week and they came to see us within a couple of months.

Somethings are weird. Makes you wonder about how random things really are.

One day, #2 Son was on his way to work, probably doing about 75 since it was a 55mph zone, and he pulled over on the rightaway. I believe he thought he had a tire going flat. Anyway, as he walked around the other side of the truck, he spied an ID badge lying in the grass. It belonged to one of his first cousins who had just lost it the day before. Three feet in either direction and he would have never seen it.

Finding an ID badge is not important, I know, but WHAT caused him to pull over and stop at the best spot for finding it?

I recently ran into a grad school friend that I'd lost track of a little more than 10 years ago. Turns out he was living in China and had some great stories. We work only a few blocks from each other in downtown. He was meeting a client in front of a building I rarely go to. If I hadn't happened to use a different door into the building than the one I usually do, I'd never have seen him. A happy coincidence as he is now helping me with my job search.

And sometimes events bring the old friends out of the woodwork. This year was my 40th high school reunion. I knew I wasn't going to go as it was being planned late & by the time I heard about it, we had already spent our vacation money.

However, I signed up on the web site with my email address just to get the information & to find out about people out of curiosity. That little act seemed to make people come out of the woodwork. I got several emails from people I hadn't talked to in years, but even better I got a phone call from the woman who had been my best friend since the 5th grade. We had had a falling out around 1990 and hadn't been in contact, but when she called, it was like no time had passed and we talked on the phone for over an hour and now are in contact again.

As far as hooking up with old friends, I'm not going to ask why, I'm just going to be grateful.
