Full bath or 3/4 bath dilemma

I am converting a 2/1 to a 3/2. The new master bath will have both a freestanding tub claw foot tub and a separate shower. The original full bath is scheduled to be converted to a 3/4 bath due to floor plan reconfiguration. I am trying to decide whether I should make the 3/4 bath to a full bath. I have the layout and space for it. I'd like to get opinions. Thanks

Are you saying there is enough floor space for separate bath and shower in the original bathroom or is this a question of going shower only vs a tub/shower combo? As long as you have a tub elsewhere in the house, it shouldn't matter as far as resale, etc, (although I personally don't care for the only tub in the house to be the one in the master as I like the idea of a master being private from anyone else in the house at all times) so it will really boil down to what you prefer and how you plan on using the space. If its a bathroom that will only be used for guests, there is seldom ever need for a tub. If its for kids, how often will the kids be taking baths. For instance, one of mine likes to take baths from time to time and I really don't want him using the master to do it, so I would not consider replacing the tub/shower in the kids room with shower only any time soon. But some families have kids who will never be taking a bath and so its fine to go shower only.

Thank you. Yes, the question of which way to go - shower only or tub/shower comb. Those are all good points I need to consider in my decision. I don't mind others using my private bath for the tub but a freestanding tub is higher than a tub/shower combo, in terms of getting into the tub. Thanks again.

The fixtures are Moen Kingsley, chrome finish. (purchased by plumber ) The shower in master is one of their complete 3/4" spa sets, + we bought a separate Moen showerhead...the one that you can switch from rain back to normal....highly recommend this option. Chrome is a rare phenomenon....my wife and I both love it, and it's the least expensive finish option! The kid's vanity is 28", and ours is 42 or 44"...both ordered from Home Decorators, complete w/ granite tops/sinks. ...The vanities is where we saved a bit. We're very happy w/ both vanities. One caveat, the drawers are pretty much wood boxes that sit inside cubby holes..no slides/dovetails/etc....We don't expect them to last a lifetime, but again, I'm happy with what we got vs. what we paid, and the wood finish looks great on both. . ONe caution...plumber hated hooking up the waste to the 28"...that is a very narrow cabinet! flying diver, thanks on the floor comment...it's carrara, so expensive per sqft, but not too much in our small bath! We both love the feel and look of it

Definitely a plus! As long as you have one bath you should be fine. I have two baths right now and am planning to remove one and turn it into a full shower for the convenience. Last week I tripped over a cobblestone and fell on my knee and banged it up good. Next morning I had so much trouble stepping over the tub to get into the shower. I realized that for every person who was able to get step over the tub easily to get into the shower there was most likely another person out there who would have trouble stepping over the tub and would welcome a full shower. Resale is almost something you can't measure (a bath/shower combo is not necessarily a plus to some people). So, do what you want because you cannot predict who will like your house when you go to sell it.

How about this? Fit the two bathrooms, each adjacent to its respective bedroom, along the wall with the staircase. Replace the bathroom that's currently between the two bedrooms with back-to-back closets*, one for each bedroom. Place the washer/dryer at the end of the closets, (i.e., facing the staircase). Remove the bathtub. *"The standard minimum depth for a reach-in closet is 24 inches, but a closet intended to store coats or other bulky hanging items may need to be as deep as 28 inches."

@shirlpp - We need a mirror for the vanity so it has to be against a wall. As for shower on the window side, it's a rather large window, we would have to replace it with something smaller. @littlebug zone 5 Missouri Thanks for the input. That kitchen island is not really an island and can be removed. We're thinking of closing off the master access to the kitchen door but those late night snack route to the kitchen would be much longer haha. We're gonna put some thoughts into this. @eld6161 Thanks for the photo. I can picture the layout from your post. I think our space is a bit bigger so this might work.

Is the original bath for guests or for other family members living in the house? If just guests, the 3/4 should be fine. If for other family members, I would do a full bath.

If the only bathtub would be your pretty clawfoot, I would do the combo elsewhere.

We use our tub not just for bathing but for the dog, kids, etc... When whatever won't fit in the laundry sink, but needs a wash-off.
