Celeste Fig Lower leaves turning yellow brown
Comments (8)Sorry, I should have been more clear. I planted it in the ground right after I purchased it. Like most new fruit tree growers, I am learning from the school of hard knocks. It is probably 3 to 4 feet tall with 4 or 5 young figs on it and several nice leaves. Just worried as the yellow then brown effect has gone up the plant to effect about 3 large leaves and given the young nature of the tree, I am worried this trend will continue. I am growning an odd affinity for my fruit trees! We have a very good local nursery and I guess I had either gotten the advice or misunderstood the advice and I planted in direct sunlight (he did warn me to cover the roots with pine straw to help with heat on the roots). It has been very very hot up here in the panhandle of Florida(after we had record rainfall for June). I feel like I planted it towards the end of the rainfall, so I believe heat is the issue at hand. (my satsumas and meyer lemons are living it up, but the celeste fig does seem stressed.) Al, thanks for the great lesson on 5:1:1 soil. I have made some good batches of that for my container plants and it looks and feels fantastic, plants seem to really be taking to it and drainage is outstanding. Probably should have started the fig tree out in a pot until I learn something. Thanks for all the replies. Any advice on helping the plant out after I made the mistake of planting it in direct sunlight?...See MoreWill Yellow Winter Gem Boxwood Leaves Turn From Yellow to Green?
Comments (12)Yeah, I think they might have done better if we had planted them in the spring rather than the fall. We bought them really cheap at the end of the planting season around here, and they probably didn't have enough time for their roots to become established. I tugged at the leaves yesterday evening, and they didn't seem to want to come off. The branches look healthy and not dried out. I guess I will just have to see what happens. Maybe I'll give them another year, and if they look the same next spring I may need to re-think my hedge. Even with a mild winter, Winter Gem boxwood in Zone 5b might be pushing it. What kind of fertilizer does boxwood like? I have some 10-10-10 and some Holly Tone. Would either of these help them?...See MoreFig leaves turning yellow, fruit turning red and dropping
Comments (7)Yes, so cal San Fernando valley. The fig's ph tested at 6.75, which is within the range of N absorption. My water is pretty alkaline at 7.9 so it tends to counteract all the acidity I put into the ground with compost and fertilizer. the tree gets plenty of water, I test monthly with a probe. my cure-all is worm tea, but I'm worried a shot of N right now will be a killer in the heat. i'm going to try a heavy watering in the morning. my wife is sort of devastated as the figs are turning mostly inedible. Past years were super sweet and tasty (big thumbs up on the V de B) and we had a huge crop coming this year....See MoreHelp with orange tree - branches turning brown & leaves turning yellow
Comments (2)Looks like its getting burnt to a crisp. When did you plant it? If it doesn't have any roots set up, it's getting blazed with hot sun, and you fertilized it, I think that would cause the burning. There could be something wacky with your soil too....See Morebea (zone 9a -Jax area)
