NO! Do not do a rejuvenation to any Viburnum!! Michael Dirr, who wrote the book on them and who has developed many of them, recommends infrequent and light pruning of Viburnums, if any at all. This is my favorite shrub. I have at least two dozen and about 8 different cultivars. I believe the one you have is a Burkwood, but it could also be Judd. Either way, it's gorgeous, pretty much pest- and maintence free, and you should definitely NOT coppice it. You do that to a Rose of Sharon or a lilac, but never to a Viburnum. coatfetish, that's a nice crabapple, I can smell it's fragrance all the way up here. I have a way to get the tree you want, take cuttings. This pic shows rooted cuttings of my 'Tina' crab. Knock on your neighbor's door and ask for cuttings. Do this around the end of May or anytime in June. The medium I use is 50/50 peat-perlite. I also use a rooting hormone. I put mine under mist and they are rooted within a month. Since you probably won't have access to mist you can create a propagation chamber, this has been discussed many times here. You could also use a cold frame, out of the sunlight and keep the top closed. PS, if you do this, don't take 5 or 6, take 100. That way you can keep the strongest ones for yourself and give away the rest.
