Wag...kind of reminds me of a healthier version of my apple tree.

So do you think it's a crabapple? We had a huge, old, sprawling apple tree when I was a kid and the flowers were much larger and more sparsely placed than this. I would really love to get one of whatever this is - apple or crabapple.

Thank you! I only just started looking up white crabapples and thought it could be 'Adirondack' - the age, red buds, and locale of the tree. I didn't come across 'Wedding Bouquet'. I will look that one up after work. Thank you so much!

'A'. is effectively a dwarf, with quite red buds and more substantial looking petals. This tree also has the wrong crown shape.

There is no point in jumping on familiar names as hundreds of kinds have been named and sold. And some found plants are random seedlings, that have never been in commerce. I wouldn't try to stick a name on this one unless I found a match at a garden or nursery, using cut specimens from the tree in question. Even then there are sets of similar yet discrete cultivars that can look quite alike in flower. Crabs can be like elms or willows, with the flowers, leaves and fruits all needing to be seen before precise identification becomes possible.

Yes, as I had a little time today to look at more options, I realized there are numerous white crabapples that have reddish buds - I didn't know how common that was. I appreciate everyone's help, and I'm going to start a new thread where I ask for help in choosing a crabapple to order from a nursery. I'll be looking primarily for white blooms with red/pink buds, and with good disease resistance. I don't have size requirements - I just feel in love with the flower colors, reminding me of an ancient apple tree we had in the yard when I was a child. I hope if any of you have ideas/suggestions, you will let me know. many thanks to all of you for your quick help!

'Adirondack' may be the best one.

Since you probably won't have access to mist you can create a propagation chamber, this has been discussed many times here. You could also use a cold frame, out of the sunlight and keep the top closed.

PS, if you do this, don't take 5 or 6, take 100. That way you can keep the strongest ones for yourself and give away the rest.

Excellent! I'm sure woman I spoke to would let me - she said they just moved in this month (they are renters). She was very friendly. Heck, the tree overhangs our quiet side street by a few feet - I can literally drive up under the branches in my car. I might make a drive-by-pruning when they are at work lol. I love your idea and info - this way I can get exactly this same crabapple without second-guessing what it is and trying to find one. Thank you so much! You want only new growth that is soft and rubbery, no more than 5". This is important, if your frames are in the sun SHADE THEM. The first couple of weeks you must keep the tops closed, maybe mist them by hand a few times.
