Outlet and cover in the island: What color?
Comments (21)If you use the clear electrical plate covers, a carpenter will have to make a cutout that is perfect since there is no margin for error. (you can't cover up any flaws in the cutout) If you use a cover plate that you can stain to match, you will till need the plug itself that will most likely be black or brown. The plugmold is an interesting idea and worth a little more research. I wonder if those are allowed according to your local code? Usually a GFI at both ends of the island is what is required. I think that if your cabinets are dark, you would be very happy with either black or brown. Brown would be my vote as they will match the wood tone the best. It's one of those things that you can obsess about but once it is all said and done, you won't even give it a second thought. Comments (4)I really hate the existing ivory switches/plates in our house. In an addition we built a few years ago we went with very simple white switches and plates (on walls that are mostly shades of green) and I like them much better. They just seem cleaner and all-around less dingy (which may be more a factor of the age of the existing switches than anything else). But no more ivory for us. And it seems like if your appliances and trim are white then the white would be better....See MoreSwitch and Outlet Covers
Comments (11)Wow, thanks for all the quick responses! I thought about covering them with wallpaper gracie01, but I'd still have that big wide white Lutron toggle switch. Fori's idea of wallpapering the plates but switching out the switch to a different color is a great solution. I would have to see if they make metal plates for Lutron Meg. That could work also. And palimpset I have never seen those glass covers! They are a definite possibility! I have a lot to think about now, thanks!...See MoreBest Source for New Light Switches, Outlets, Covers, etc
Comments (7)For many of these items Home Depot offers multi-packs at substantial discount. For example, one white Decora Midway wall plate costs $0.96 while 10 cost $8.16. Lutron Maestro LED+ Dimmer Switches are excellent as are the Lutron Diva LED+ Dimmer Switches which include physical (not just electronic) on/off switches but are not programmable. I used occupancy sensors (with, without dimmer) in hallways so the lights would turn on when I entered at night....See MoreUser
