I've read, but still haven't tackled...grouting
Comments (16)MM, Sivamae, did an excellent job with instructions for grouting. I do save some leftover grout in an old butter tub or yogurt container just in case I have to make repairs the next day. It's not real soft but I can usually soften it up with some water to get enough to fix up spots. The only thought I would add to Silvmae, is that since you have a large project, don't try to mix grout to make your color, use a pre color package and stick with it. It can be risky to mix color for grout and try to match it another day. If you have a clay pot outside, stick some of your leftover dish pieces on it and use that for your practice piece to grout. You will certainly learn from it. Your grouting will be a little more challenge since you have a variety of textures....See MoreWarning: if you haven't done this, DON'T!
Comments (55)Bud, I saw this one recently. Frosty Paws Dog Ice Cream Recipe 32 oz. plain yogurt 1 mashed banana 2 T p'nut butter 2 T honey ItÂs true dairy products arenÂt good for dogs, but yogurt contains much less lactase than regular milk and the live cultures are great for your dogÂs digestive system. This dog ice cream recipe is delicious and good for your pet! 1. Mix all these ingredients in your blender, then dump into ice cube trays, paper cups, or even a kong toy to freeze and serve. 2. If you want to go all out for your mutt you can freeze these homemade frosty paws just like you would homemade ice cream. A salt-less automatic ice cream maker makes this as easy as using any other appliance in your home and the frosty paws will be ready to serve in 10 minutes. For the ultimate treat, appropriate for desert at a doggy birthday party, follow steps one and two, then take the mostly frozen dog ice cream product of number two and spread it 1" to 1½" thick on wax paper. Freeze for five minutes and thenremove dog ice cream from freezer. Next, use a paw shaped cookie cutter to cut a paw shaped "frosty paws", remove ice cream around edges, and return paw shapes to the freezer to freeze solid....See MoreIf you don't know this author, you MUST read her!
Comments (33)Mummsie, I have never read "Christine" so I am reluctant to comment. It seems, however, from what other writers have said, to take the fact of her teen-age daughter's death to create fiction. Elizabeth had a troubled relationship with this daughter and packed her off to a very strict school in Germany. Not long after, the daughter died of pneumonia during WW1 in Germany. Elizabeth wrote "Christine" under a different name, in order to protect yet another daughter still in Germany. She created fictional letters from a daughter who died to a mother abroad. The purpose was to aid the Allied war effort with the book's negative view of Germany. Elizabeth, according to what I have read, was roundly criticized for this device as so many people believed the book to be non-fiction when it was published. Not exactly a warm and fuzzy story....See MoreBooker Prize tonight - if you haven't yet read the shortlist....
Comments (7)I don't dispute that it's a bit of a disappointing short-list. But the books aren't half as depressing as they sound - the guy who does these deliberately picks out the worst parts and parodies the whole book like that. Very skillful, but I sometimes wonder if he actually enjoys reading very much? The same guy wrote an article in the Guardian which he seemed to suggest that if a book doesn't sell, it isn't worth anything....I really do wonder about him. Fortunately, someone else wrote another article refuting him....See Moremarylmi
