Please help me refurnish my LR!
Comments (21)Have you seen deco chairs like that in person? They are really massive in scale. They would tend to overpower anything but a very bulky sofa. I think you can use a lighter scaled pair of chairs, especially if one of them has a small side table next to it. Go too large and you will start to cut off the DR. For end tables I would look at bedside chests and tables if you want something more solid. You used to be able to find simple solid cubes but I haven't seen many lately. Ethan Allen Chest: Here is my LR/DR which is quite large at 25 x 16 x 10 ceiling, and most of the seating is not massive in scale: the sofa is long at 96", My lamps are the same era as yours, and I think mine could have larger shades really. They did tend to go pretty big back then. The decor is not closely coordinated because I tend to add things I like as I go along....See MorePlease help me finish my LR - Pictures
Comments (19)@Jeana -- That aqua is exactly what I spent many hours looking for! @yayagal - I, too, thought about lumbar pillows. They'll look great! I'm contemplating re-making the striped pillows from the sofa and using the Ikat fabric for sofa pillows. Orange, hmmm... There is no orange in the art over the credenza -- it has varying shades of pink, plus blue, gold and green. I was thinking of adding some aqua/teal/turquiose, though. How do you think that will look? Found this small buffet on CL. Perhaps for my linen chest? Here are some tables I'm considering for between the chairs: Love the size of this one (29 inches) but not the wood Love the walnut and cherry of this one, but really wanted a solid table to offset the open coffee table I like the curves on this one to offset all the angular furniture Or a bunching table Pal orginally suggested as end tables? Thanks for all the suggestions!...See MorePlease help me configure my LR!
Comments (20)Rachel - here we meet again :) We're actually struggling with this same issue now. I don't know how serious you were but I did note a question of whether you even wanted a TV. We haven't watched TV for over 2 years and only a handful of movies. I hated the idea of having my livingroom centered around something that was not only unsightly, but also rarely used. The current arrangment we have, which I think would look wonderful in your livingroom, is we have 2 loveseats at a diagonal to the fireplace and have the sofa where yours is now. In your case though, I would pull the sofa out and create what in essence would serve as a sofa table/pop up TV unit. You can still keep the picture you have above the sofa and the TV would rise out when "needed". Visitors have often commented on how they love the arrangment (without my saying a word). It's so easy to converse with everyone who is in the room. At least four people (more depending on any additional seeting) could comfortably watch TV. Your home is BEAUTIFUL!!!...See MorePlease help me update my 1977 house's exterior
Comments (13)The bluish grey is not nice in the pictures. I would like white siding, white gutters and slate grey trim. Also agree with housson that the door should be a glossy black . For the entrance area, if possible, build a large light grey square deck that extends from the front door (no steps) to close to the property line and from the back wall (right of front door) to under the 3 windows (left of front door) with a white & glass railings like the other side of house (rear)....See Moregramarows
