Wood Blinds versus Cellular Shades in windows
Comments (18)I posted a while back for help deciding on wood blinds. In the end, with much help from posters here, I decided to go ahead and order some standard size wood blinds from JC Penney. I started out by putting them just in our family room windows. I found that I loved them so much that I wound up ordering them for every window in the house. I ordered the white ones and find that they reflect a lot of light and really brighten up the rooms, too. I'm sorry that I can't add any info about how they are to raise and lower on a daily basis because I just tilt them open and closed. We haven't had them for long, but so far we only raise them a bit if we open a window. Hope this helps....See MoreBlinds/Cellular shades in Glass Door or nothing?
Comments (9)We had Pella windows and doors with the blinds between the glass in a prior home, and they were nothing but trouble. Conceptually, I think they're a great idea, but we must have gotten dozens of lemons in our (multiple replacement) orders. Our current home has quite a few french doors, and most have plantation shutters on them. The man who built the shutters used very strong magnets between the shutter panels and their frames so that they won't fall open when the doors are opened/closed, and he put extenders on the ORB lever door handles for clearance. In one room, dh installed a curtain rod above the four door frames and hung panels w/ grommets that can easily be pulled to each side. The hardware was installed so that the panels clear the door frames and do not impede opening the doors....See MoreTop/down cellular shades - Blinds to Go
Comments (32)I have 4 very large 48 X 95 inch cellular blinds from Blinds to Go. I did not get top down. Mine are white but appear slightly gray because they are black out blinds and lined inside the cells with silver. I have Hunter Douglas in my other rooms. The difference I have found is in the strings. The Blinds to Go use white strings for the pulls and they get dirty, Hunter Douglas uses ball chain and is a continuous loop. The Blinds to Go have had to be repaired. The blinds got shorter and shorter over time and uneven. It seems the strings inside were catching or shrinking. I must say that the company repaired them and quickly, but I had climb up 12 feet to take them down and put them up again several days later and in the mean time I had no window covering in my bedroom. For me the price difference was worth buying Hunter Douglas. I purchased them through Home Depot. Also the Blinds to Go installer was horrible and they had to send me someone else to fix the initial install twice. Also the first batch of delivered shades were incorrectly measured. The Home Depot installer was very professional and timely....See MoreCellular Shades: ceiling height or individual pieces?
Comments (7)Hey There: This window is probably the most expensive window in the complete house - do NOT cover it up with a single blinds. Our suggestion is to have a custom arched honeycomb shade on the top ( fixed or operable if really/really needed) and three individual bottom up top down shades for the bottom part. This preserves the beauty of your window and does all the required tricks from shading to privacy to look great....See Morebusybee3
