How loud is the Speed Queen washer/dryer
Comments (13)One caveat...which is really a non-issue because EVERYONE who buys a Speed Queen does it. Government regs require that Speed Queen deliver their conventionally-designed machines with a fill-limiter that only "fills" the tub about 70% of actual full. Problem solved in about five minutes by removing three screws on the panel, tilting it forward, and adjusting a 1/4" limiter screw so that it fills all the way. Several youtube videos show how it's done. With zero previous experience, I accomplished this in minutes. Small deal, IMHO. After you do this, the tub will fill ALL the way when set to "full" but still allow smaller-fills by adjusting the panel-dial normally. I regard this gov't limit as quite ridiculous but that's what the manufacturer is saddled with. EVERYBODY who buys one of these machines does it. Otherwise, I would say the machine operates pretty much exactly like those Maytags of old except that 1) the tub is bigger 2) the agitation is better 3) the thing digests unbalanced spin-loads much better and 4) all rinses are tap-cold....no option for "warm" rinses....See MoreSpeed Queen Front Load AFN50 Washer Review - Long Post
Comments (236)You don't say whether your FP washer is a TL or FL. In my opinion and experience, having to buy ANY washer & dryer these days is a dilemma in itself. If you buy some Top Loaders you can have some control over the water level; otherwise, forget that with any and all Front Loaders. My Speed Queen FL (cost $1800) is built like a tank and works like a charm except for the water level (13.4 gal split between washing and rinsing!???). San Diego Steve will tell you that is plenty and he has even posted that he sold that model and bought the newer one which uses even less total water per wash cycle (11.xx gal I think). He and I are in complete disagreement on how 4 gal of water can rinse a set of King size sheets that remain in a wad. So FL vs TL is the first hurdle. I'm not sure how much water a SQ TL uses, but that would be my first question. My FL spins like crazy. I would have bought an FP but they are not sold anywhere in the Dallas, TX area. Maytag used to make a Centennial model which my daughter in law has and it has a deep rinse which fills the tub, but might no longer be made. Sorry not to have any more helpful information. The Chinese factor would scare me off as well with the FP. Good luck and please post your final decision with the outcome. It will be up to date and may help others....See More2015 Speed Queen washer/dryer
Comments (8)Electronic controls are far more reliable than mechanical controls. But like everything if designed poorly they will fail prematurely. All automobiles and commercial aircraft today are fly by wire and are loaded with electronic controls. Just think anti-locking breaks, solid state ignitions, fuel injection, and automatic transmissions and we don't think about reliability. Speed Queen increased their warranty by two years with units that have electronic controls. That should say something about their faith in electronic control reliability. Even the dome membrane keypad used is typically rated for at 1 million keystrokes and the good ones are rated at over 10 million keystrokes. And I know Speed Queen has been using electronic controls for years in their Horizon series commercial washers used in laundry mats that I am sure see far more abuse than home use would subject these machines to....See MoreWhich Speed Queen Top-Load Washer?
Comments (35)We bought the TC5 late last month and I love it so much! It replaced a GE front loader that was only 3 years old. I love doing laundry now - our clothes and towels are a lot softer and smell cleaner, even without using a detergent with any fragrance. It washes so quickly and things have just come out really clean. I love it and won't go back to anything else. We also got the 10yr warranty with it through the end of the year. The 2018 TR models got terrible reviews, I'd definitely stay away from those. For the TC5, if you have it on Normal Eco it only washes on cold and with less water. The other cycles use more water and any temp. We wash almost everything on the bulky cycle with warm water and it fills up about 3/4 with water. We've used the deep fill option a handful of times. I do about 8-10 loads or more a week. I recommend!...See Moresocalgal_gw Zone USDA 10b Sunset 24
