PLEASE HELP ME HELP MY SAD LAWN

Marni Hickey

I live in south east Michigan and my lawn does not grow well and it is patchy. There are two large maple trees in my front yard that create a lot of shade. I am going to try my best to correct or improve my lawn this season. I completed a soil test and according to the test results, my soil is slightly acidic (6.5), nitrogen is depleted, potash and phosphorus are sufficient. One more thing, there are a few low spots in my lawn, where I believe a previous owner removed trees, I would like to add soil and plant grass seed to make the ground even. I am looking for advise regarding the sequence of steps needed to reach my goal of a better lawn. These are the steps that I believe need to be completed... just not sure about the order in which to do them, Also, I'm sure I am missing steps...

-Add lime to soil to increase PH

-Add soil to level lawn/ground

-Over-seed areas of established grass

-Seed new soil where soil was added to low areas

-Fertilize lawn

I would so appreciate any advise in regards to the steps I've mentioned (ie suggested order of steps/timeline, suggested additional steps, recommended grass seed type, recommended lime/ fertilizers, etc).
