Bringing an old garden back to life, couple of questions.

HI,

I have a backyard garden, 12' x 18'. Has been unused for about 5 years.

I rented a tiller to turn the soil and have been shoveling and raking dirt to even everything out. What is the best way to break up the soil? The surface is pretty chunky still. Most pics of gardens I see have a fairly fine looking soil. Is it simply a matter of just raking and working the soil to break everything down over time?

Also, I am in the midwest in central Indiana. My plan is to get 7 or 8 bags of manure and mix in to the soil before planting. Anything else I should to to get things going before planting?

Any advice is appreciated.

THANKS

Matt
