Lacebugs are a problem for azaleas, as well as whiteflies. Try hosing them off with a strong jet of water from the hose. get down low so you get under the leaves. Follow up with insceticidal soap. Do it again in a week. Next year, start earlier with the hosing and get the population knocked down before they explode. Then you shouldn't have to do it as often.

Steve, I think that's what they call a Velvet Ant, it's a wingless wasp. Spider Mites don't have stingers, and even if they did they're way too small to penetrate human skin. They have mouth parts similar to regular spiders but use them to rasp the surface of the plant and then they suck up the juices. John Why do you kill spiders. In my area the average house has over 60 brown recluse spider. Any spider that is not a brown recluse will eat a brown recluse or any other insect it can find. Brown recluses feed on dead and injured insects. Any other spider eats the insect before they die or become week and thus starve the brown recluse. This greatly reduces the chance of a brown recluse bite. I could understand your position on spiders if the Brazilian Wandering Spiders live in your area. I would like to have a Huntsman or Goliath bird eating spider in my house to take care of my mice. Right now I have a couple of snake slithering freely though my hose and the mice really dropped their numbers

Hey guys. After zooming in on that first picture I'm thinking its roots. But any other ideas would be welcome. I've never really dealt with any infestation. I live on a 3rd floor so maybe that is too high for these little bugs to reach.
