Uh-oh... Freezer won't open...
Comments (21)OK, an update... The blow dryer method didn't work, it had overheating protection and kept shutting itself off. I removed the door. It still took some doing even after taking off all the screws/bolts. The freezer was almost full of ice/snow. I used some to line a cooler and transferred the food... then took much of the food to a friend's house, she had room in her freezer. Some of the tomatoes had freezer burn so threw them out. A batch of sauce we make still looked excellent so saved it. About 50lbs of deseeded, dejuiced maters in freezer bags that were in a big coated box look great still. If they defrost I'll run them thru the Spremy. It's not like I don't have enough tomatoes on the plants still, which are still flourishing... Now to get her back here later today to get at the 3 screws that go on the bottom of the door... Mark...See MoreUh-oh . . . I can't watch Jeopardy this week!
Comments (32)My TV reception is back! Jeopardy here I come!! It's a long story, but I figured out what the problem was. The roofers didn't mess up my antenna connection--I did. It was an easy fix. Meanwhile, keeping me company in the kitchen as I cook have been episodes of "Cheers." I've been appreciating it all over again--a very funny show! But I'm looking forward to Jeopardy tonight. Thanks!...See MoreUH OH, more trouble ahead?
Comments (19)The social distancing was to allow the hospitals to not have so many patients that they could not be cared for. Be prepared to have multiple 'shelter in place' for some time. My reasoning is that each time people are allowed out of their homes they stand a chance of being infected. Each time the ban is lifted additional people will develop the virus. If too many people in an area start becoming infected people will be asked to distance themselves again. Until the number of people needing healthcare is reduced there will be need for distancing to prevent overwhelming the health care system. Eventually most people will have had it and hopefully recover or a vaccine will be developed. People will need mental and economic relief to recover from this....See MoreUh oh...chemical burn or disease on fiddle leaf fig?
Comments (4)The normal 'go to' remedy for fungal infections is a fungicide. Bayer makes a very effective 3-in-1 product which includes Imidacloprid as a systemic insecticide, Tebuconazole as a systemic fungicide, and Tau-fluvalinate as a miticide. It can be used on indoor plants, but the application by spraying must be done outdoors where the plant should stay until the treatment dries. I treat all my plants prophylactically with 2-3 sprayings at 2 week intervals before I bring them in come fall night temps below 50*. Bayer makes 2 different products labeled '3-in-1', so be careful what you buy if you use it. The 'other' 3-in-1 product is nowhere near as effective. See it here. About the spots: When light energy over-excites molecules, as the molecules return to their normal state O- free radicals are released as oxygen splits into single atoms with unpaired electrons. Electrons like to be in pairs, so these free radicals are quick to 'find' other electrons so they can become a pair. This very quickly causes oxidation of the nearest organic molecules, which does irreversible damage to affected cells/ proteins/ DNA. The O- free radicals in H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) which are responsible for rapid oxidation and bleaching of hair are exactly the same as the O- free radicals. The pigment chlorophyll is a favored target of free oxygen radicals. The silver or tan appearance of sunburned area that eventually turn black or brown (depending on how much moisture is in the damaged part of the leaf) is the result of the destruction of chlorophyll. While your plant isn't suffering from sunburn, it was exposed to the same free radicals of oxygen that do the damage in sunburn cases. Chlorophyll absorbs light closer to the red and blue ends of the spectrum and reflects light toward the middle of the spectrum, so green light waves. When it's destroyed, other pigments become expressive in the area of the damage. In this case you're seeing expression red/ purple pigment, most likely anthocyanin. All that says nothing about the red sap/ latex, however. How that might be is above my pay grade. Al...See Morezkathy z7a NC
