"Where is Dr. Fauci" was trending yesterday. Apparently he was busy with NIH business but will be returning to the podium.

I've heard some talk about this second wave as well but I think it's one of those theories that I'm going to ignore for now. Too much going on already.

A doctor who came into our business last Saturday (that is, before we closed for two weeks) also said recovering from the virus **does not** guarantee immunity against subsequent infection.

Sometimes people don't realize their words may induce panic.

Trump wanted to reassure us the stock market will be fine, immediately after suggesting this could be the largest depression the world has known.

They don't know if having it once gives you protection or not. I certainly hope so because if I get it then after I recover I'd like to be able to help people that need it, knowing I can't infect them. I hope they can get that figured out.

Listen only to the medicos. Trump knows nothing. He doesn't want to know. This makes it easier to blame someone else, in case you hadn't noticed that is the way he operates in every instance.

As I understand the situation in China, new Covid-19 cases are surfacing as people *return to China* from other countries. Earlier reports said that cases surfaced as previously isolated workers *returned to work*. Last I heard it's the *incoming* who are carriers.

We can't model our timelines on China anyway. They almost immediately shut down *everything* in the whole nation. That's still not national policy in the US. The virus has gotten a head start. Only *some* towns/cities/states have *recently* taken more drastic measures.

The cat is now out of the bag. The 'curve' is going to be straight UP for a long time in the Western World.

You had to have your head buried in the sand if you thought this was going to be over in two weeks. The two week or 15 day social distancing is to help keep the hospitals from becoming unable to deal with the overload. If your community has but one known case, you can multiply that by about ten because that's probably the least number of people that one case has infected but they don't know they are infected and each one of them can go out and infect another ten, that's a hundred people and so on and so on. Stay home and away from everyone. Try to go to the grocery store as little as possible....go in and get out quickly and wash, wash, wash your hands as soon as you get home.

I think there's current concern regarding the fact that there appears to be evidence to support the conjecture that transmission of the virus can be airborne as well as touch related. Originally, authorities refuted that fact. So, although washing our hands is still uppermost on the list of things-to-do...isolation is becoming more and more relevant to prevention. I support georgysmom2's contribution 100%.

It has been rather firmly established (CDC and WHO) - and sometime ago - that the virus is spread primary by airborne droplets (coughs and sneezing) and secondarily by person to person contact. Social distancing, self isolation and staying in place are the best ways to curtail the spread. And while the virus is known to survive for a period of time on various surfaces, it is not thought or been established that this is a significant source of infection.

I figured this to be the case, that there could easily be a smaller second wave. Unless we knock it out 100%, of course.

China *did not* shut down everything in the nation. To the contrary, the government hid from the population and the world at large the health problem brewing, and allowed international travel even as the epidemic spread.

As with the seasonal flu, as with the 1918 epidemic, I've heard experts predict there will be peaks and valleys over many months or more. Like looking at a roller coaster from the side.

The social distancing was to allow the hospitals to not have so many patients that they could not be cared for. Be prepared to have multiple 'shelter in place' for some time. My reasoning is that each time people are allowed out of their homes they stand a chance of being infected. Each time the ban is lifted additional people will develop the virus. If too many people in an area start becoming infected people will be asked to distance themselves again. Until the number of people needing healthcare is reduced there will be need for distancing to prevent overwhelming the health care system.

Eventually most people will have had it and hopefully recover or a vaccine will be developed. People will need mental and economic relief to recover from this.

Quite a few of us'll get to ride that roller coaster, don't ya figure, Elmer?

This is exactly what I've been thinking as well.

China *says* the more recent surge is due to people coming IN to China, not from workers who were sequestered and who are returning to work. No way to verify.

Whether you believe China *shut down*...whether you believe anything from there...Italy is providing a tragic illustration of failure to shut down, even in the prosperous north.

I'm on Day 20 of home isolation. DH last shopped for groceries three days ago. (Looking into delivery by Instacart or Insta-son.) I can't avoid a three hour exposure at the cancer center March 30.

Illinois is on state-wide shut down now, and other states are following suit. We need NATIONAL shut down. Closing our borders is nothing. The virus is HERE.

I haven't been here in forever.. but saw the comment about the drug that might help with COVID 19.. The drug is a anti-malarial, Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) and yes, it can cause eye problems but probably not in the short duration that people would be taking it for the virus. I was on this drug for an off label use about 10 years ago. I did have to get an eye exam every 3 months I think.. but never had any problems nor any side effects. I don't recall the dose I was on, but would not hesitate to take it again.

For many years I was the nurse manager of a tuberculosis unit where patients with active tuberculosis were quarantined. Doctors relied on a combination of 3 medications that were taken for at least 6 months. One med MYAMBUTOL could cause vision problems, Patients were given an eye test monthly. There was never a vision problem encountered. When I worked there some of the public was so afraid of even driving near the hospital building. Then came AIDS, another big scare to the world. We sometimes had patients with both diseases at the same time. I did not practice during Swine Flu. This makes my 4th time to be alive during a serious health epidemic as an adult. I remember my mother being so afraid of diptheria and polio.
