uh, oh... wait til daddy gets home!!

My nephew told me the funniest story on the phone last night about his oldest daughter. I am still smiling about it especially when I think of my niece Diana and how "sociable" she is. LOL.

Diana is 14 years old and was home after school waiting for her mom and dad to get home from work. She was with her brother James who is 12. My nephews wifes mom and dad live next door. They are Big kids now, and she is finding out that not being babysat with grandma has certain responsibilities, LOL.

Anyway, Diana calls her dad at work asking if she can go over to one of her best friends house. Her dad told her that he would be home in less than 20 min. and he would check her homework, chores, and then he would take her over to her friends house, if everything looked good. She started the whinny thing, and ask him why, why... Then he got firm with her and he said for-

#1. You are NOT GOING to walk down our road cross #### highway, then walk down #### highway!

#2. School work comes first, and you know I always check that first, except on days when you have extra school, or extra activities.

#3. You are not leaving James alone, just as you are not left alone, Period.

They both left the conversation, and he told her he would come home as soon as he could and to hang tight.

Well, a little while later he said he realized he had a text. He read it and it said, "Can't come over, my daddy's being an ass right now."

So, he text her right back, "Could someone be in trouble about this time?"

She text him, "For what?"

He text her, "Texting the wrong ass."

Silence.....

He gets home and she and her homework were laid out on the table with a glass of sweet tea and a ham sandwich on the table for him. Oh, with lettuce AND tomato...yep, she is learning early...the way to a mans' heart is through his stomach...She was so full of I am sorrys', tears, etc. etc.

He talked to her about her language, as they do not use that kind of language in their home, but he told her that he could understand her being upset and she had a right to her feelings, but they would learn a better vocabulary word, and together that nite that is what they did. I ask him what the word was, and he said they both liked schmoo.

(can you guess my nephews' occupation?LOL)

Your nephew is the kind of father we need more of in this world. What a great story!!

Is he in a customer service type of job, where he deals with the public a lot?

I was telling hubby about my sharing my latest 'escapee' on the forum here and he said, "Well, you know, when you said you had an escapee the ONLY thing I kept hoping was that you wouldn't say, 'The tarantula escaped.' Since it was just a caterpillar, it was no big deal." Yeah, ya see, last summer, I had OTHER critters escape...a few of my Madagascar Hissing Cockroach babies got out and it was one of those, "uh oh...I am REALLY in trouble now!" because I didn't NOTICE the escapees for, oh, about a month! I still keep hoping I don't spot one around here somewhere (although I really doubt I would but you just never know!). I mean, did I share how my little adorable Shih Tzu found a dead MOUSE the other day? Here I am, enjoying the afternoon in the backyard, reading under the umbrella and THINKING she was chewing on one of her chewies (she just brought it out) when next thing I know, DH says, "What the heck is THAT?!" and I said, "Oh, Cheli's been chewing on her chewie, does it look nasty now?" and he said, "Uh, I think it's something else, hon." Of course, Chelsea is UNDER my chair and refuses to come out. She had found some dead mouse, who knows where, and was apparently chewing on the leg or something. EEEUWWW! Good thing it was dead and dried out and flat and...although I freaked and called the vet immediately. (Found out the neighbor had put out rat poison three months ago but still I don't know where she found this thing)

My BF is a carpenter. I am AMAZED at the variety of how well these contractors run their businesses. Guys who are handy with tools aren't always very savvy about how to manage the people aspects. Some are pretty good but many are downright lousy. Sometimes it amazes me how they have him running from job to job, when a little pre-planning could have avoided it and been a much more efficient use of his time. However, in their defense, they are often juggling jobs of great variety in the variables, and not everyone has the natural talent to figure out how to make all the work flow well. Even if they did, they have to deal with suppliers and other tradesmen, who also varry in their delivery skills, so it's just part of the landscape for them. Also, their profit margin is getting lower these days, (at least in the US where there is NO labor shortage) and taking time to plan just isn't in the budget. Not sure how much money they could save by being more efficient, but so far it seems like there isn't a great demand for the time management/work flow set of skills in the trade. A lot of times it's, "Hurry up and wait." Believe me, it is frustrating sometimes for the workmen too, but they are used to it, they have to deal with all kinds of snafus on a daily basis, due to all the variables involved. If they seem a little insensitive, it's because they have to develop thick skin or they'd have imploded from frustration long ago. That's one thing I love about my Honey, he doesn't frustrate easily. Except for when we go on vacation, oddly. I think he saves up all his frustration and then releases it when he's finally away from work. Geeze, any little hiccup (like a fly in the motel room) and he goes ballistic while on vacation, lol! He wants everything to go perfectly smooth. That's his idea of vacation, never having to deal with a single personal issue or snafu!!

It's VERY clean inside and out, completely empty except for nice wood blinds which are going with the house and the appliances (fridge, stove, washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, even the coffee maker), and freshly painted in neutrals. We have a lawn service maintain the outside since we no longer live in Durham and 2 friends check to make sure everything is OK (one lives across the street). Price is now $169,900, down from $174,900. I don't think that really changed anything for price shoppers, since we catch the $150-175 lookers with both prices. We don't want to drop so low in price that we can't afford to negotiate at all. We will most certainly have to offer some kind of closing assistance to any buyer, since there are still new houses being built in the area, although most of them are more expensive ($190+ range). So save the money for staging and lower the price is the consensus? Should we drop price now in the slow season or wait until there are more lookers in the spring so we can advertise New Lower Price? Of course, spring would also bring more competition. This is the first time we've had to sell a house. When we relocated from MD to NC, the relocation company bought our old house. We didn't have that luxury this time :( I just don't know the best way to go about getting the best price in the shortest amount of time, how to find that balance. If staging helps sell faster then I'd be willing to throw some money at the house rather than have it sit at the same price. OTOH, of course I don't want to waste any money. Since so many of the houses on the market in our area are still occupied or are new builds, they all have furniture, so maybe we are at a disadvantage by being empty. So many decisions...

I also have a Miele Induction unit. Like the above poster, I've found the power to be immediately responsive. There are 12 power settings plus boost, and if I so choose I can tweak it to have half settings, so that there are 24. Much to my surprise, I haven't found this to be necessary--I fully expected to change that setting. I have melted chocolate chips directly in the pot with no problem, and got plenty of heat to do a proper sear on meat. I hear a slight buzzing with some of my cookware, most notably the ones with discs on the bottom. Until recently I never heard the high pitched chirp that some people seem to hear. But recently I had all 5 burners going, and all of a sudden there wss a very soft, high pitched sound that I hadn't heard before. It was not intrusive or annoying to me, but it made me stop and think 'so THAT is what those people hear'. :-) I feel comfortable shaking my pans if I want to--but I find that I do it less now than I did on the old cooktop, as the heat is distributed evenly across the bottom of the pots. Each brand of cooktop is slightly different, though--I wouldn't make a decision not to get one based on the portable, unless you just really didn't like cooking on it for some reason. For me, I love cooking on induction and would never go back to gas. Cj

No itsmesuzq, he is actually a professor at a local college. He over the mechanical engineering dept. But, he has and does deal with students and other professors. But, I guess you could say he does deal with the public alot.

May I suggest an amendment to your suggestion that "He will build his children into wonderful adults"? to "he will advise/enable/help his children to build themselves into wonderful adults", as each of us is responsible to build our own lives and when we have major and deep discussions and advice from skilled, loving and concerned parents it sure helps us as we go about that ongoing on long-term task.

Good wishes, everyone, for being as wise and helpful if you may be in such a situation.
