Uh Oh - Kitchen Starting Demo Without Me :(

Venting alert. I'm sorry.

So I get home from work today and went to open the bottom drawer to get the starter for the grill...

OOOPS :(

Then I tried to open the top one for the spatula...please note the fork trying to jump ship! The official demo (which I am doing myself "with a little help from my friends")isn't starting for another 2 weeks. I hope the kitchen can wait that long. My cleaver daughter laughed (oooh how she laughed) and said "it's going into mutiny mode should we start wearing helmets?"

Yikes! She may be right.

I read uroboros's post about before kitchens and agree. I would take your before kitchens in a minute. Have any of your kitchens started demo without you?! I'd love to see pictures. Misery loves...and all that :(

This after dropping the pool pump on my foot Sunday (and yes broke a toe) because it evidently went into mutiny mode as well and had to be replaced. Does anyone know if Murphy and his Laws stalk? I will not cry, I will not cry, I will not cry is my new mantra. Sorry for venting.

I had been planning a powder room / laundry room remodel and my laundry room went into mutiny mode too: plumbing waste leak that secretly leached waste water into the subfloor. Eww! Now the floor is gone and the renovation is nearing completion. And I'm almost glad the laundry room decided to mutiny because it gave me the necessary push to do everything I wanted with the space.

Good luck with the demo (and the following reno)! Maybe you should at least consider steel toe boots for now? *wink*

Sunnibel, I had incorrectly assumed you were where 90% of the people in the state live, in the DC/Baltimore corridor. I am in Baltimore. If you like doing outdoor activities there is a lot to do in western Maryland and its worth a 2-hour drive if you make it a whole day. Re: varieties, if you are not putting in many trees then my main advice is to make sure you are growing varieties that are suited to the mid-Atlantic. I have discarded at least 50 apple varieties which were not working out in spite of their great descriptions. Once you have narrowed down the choices you can post your list here to get feedback. I recently started writing down my overall favorites, here is the current list: Freyburg Gold Rush Kidds Orange Red Wickson Crab (but, cracks every other year) Nonpareil Rubinette Bonne Hotture Abbondanza Chestnut Crab Golden Russet (American) Hawaii Swayzie Newtown Pippin Pomme Gris Reine des Reinettes Ashmead's Kernel Mother Rusty Coat White Winter Pearmain Golden Nugget Akane (but is highly bug-prone) Maigold Ribston Pippin Myers Royal Limbertwig Pink Lady I am a big fan of russets and big-tasting apples so my favorites are skewed in that direction. The Golden Russet and Ashmeads Kernel have not fruited in my orchard but I have heard enough good things from local growers on them. Herr: Depending on how long you ran the unit prior to identifying your mistake , all may be salvageable. Normally 2-strokes have enough residual oil within the crankcase to protect the bottom end in this case. The rings will partially seize prior to bottom end destruction. You may get away with minor scuffing of the cylinder . A light application of breakin oil may free up the top end otherwise a light iron oxide sanding (deglazing) of the cylinder would be appropriate. In lieu of break in oil Crown penetrate and lube or Sea-Foam Creep lube will also do a god job. This post was edited by ewalk on Sat, Jul 27, 13 at 11:21

Ci, I'd appreciate it very much if you'd relay what you find out about Willamette to me directly at my email address--which is listed in my member page here. I would not mind having seeds of such a fine plant, selfed of course or maybe another plantaginea x Royal Standard cross. Whatever comes of such a mix has to be good. Irawon, when my Fragrant King and Fragrant Dream bloomed, along with a couple of others, I did not smell anything at first because we had so much rain I think it washed the pollen away, or whatever substance has the fragrance. But then one afternoon late, when the wind was still, not a breeze at all, I walked out to the middle of the area where the plantaginea family have their colony, and I became aware of a really heavenly scent just everywhere. It was in the air, and I could not tell from which plant it came. But those were not the Royal Standard, nor the mama plantaginea, which has yet to bloom. Taking her own sweet time. And the show ain't over until the fat lady sings. I really envy you with your platoon of Royal Standards that are all mature and probably have multiple scapes on each plant....wow, that would be worth throwing a party for 10 of your closest friends. In some place or other I read that it was late afternoon when they open or exude their scent. So maybe you do not have to stay up all night to have the party. If I got an invitation, you can bet I'd be the first to arrive.....probably with Ci right behind me!!! :) I'll go take a picture of the fragrant ones blooming and begin another thread so it can be directly searchable. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in seeing a lot of the blooms from fragrant hosta. Sure hope I get my software straightened out which is where I save my gardening and hosta information. It doesn't want to let me save it. Some problem with administrative rights on Windows 7, began after the last HP update.What a bummer.

davidrol, The faucet was an American Standard---about twenty years old. It had been slowly falling apart in various ways for some time. We had been putting up with it until now. I am shocked to hear that the hose could not have been full of holes, because when I emptied out the cabinet and turned on the faucet, the hose was leaking at multiple points along the length---kind of like a soaker hose. Unfortunately, the faucet has been put out in the garbage, so I can't offer a post-mortem autopsy to provide any other answers. As I said, the faucet must be about twenty years old, so I think it provided adequate service for some time before giving out. This was one of the first faucets made with a pull out sprayer instead of one on the side--quite advanced for the time, but archaic compared to modern faucets. The pull out sprayer portion was made of black plastic. You pressed on the top of the sprayer and the water stream would change to a spray and automatically go back to the regular stream when it was turned off. It stopped going back to the regular stream when it was turned off years ago, so we had to turn it on and off manually ourselves. We had a friend who worked for a plumbing supplies distributor at that time and he was able to get us a good deal on it at the time.

Ours is doing the SAME thing! The corner susan door has fallen off twice in a week, and our garbage disposal broke four days ago.

braina I'm so not making a bad decision,maybe not but I am trying very hard not to - timing is a wee bit off with the implosion.

fori - oh yeah sanding and refinishing the floor. I love the oak.

Our dishwasher has been recalled, our microwave quit, the ice machine in the fridge no longer works, and we only have two working stove buners. I hope we can make it until our demo starts...(still finalizing plans)

grenvale you have no idea :) No regrets or tears here, even salvation army would not want anything here. Murphy struck again tonight. The left front burner died. The Tappen stove is older than my daughter who just graduated college. OK it's all good. I had my SUV until it reached almost 300,000 miles. Recycle and reuse. I can wait 2 more weeks.
