So far so good.. :)
Comments (4)crabjoe, welcome aboard, glad your garden is doing well. Now's the time to begin thinking about next year's garden. Set up a compost station and make yourself some nice soil amendment. Also this fall gather all the fallen leaves you can and bury them about a foot deep right in the garden. Use alot, around a foot thick. It'll look rather mounded if you use enough but by spring it'll be compressed and black and rich. Next spring turn in some composted, not fresh, cow manure and mix it with that layer of leaves that will have worked down. Add some blood meal, bone meal and greensand if you can get them (follow directions) and you'll have the richest soil in the neighborhood. If you've got compost going then use it as a mulch around the plants after they come up. Don't mix sawdust, wood chips, unfinished compost, etc. in the spring - it eats up too much nitrogen at that time. Believe me, if you feed the soil you've fed your plants. Oh, it's a good idea to have your soil tested if only to determine Ph. It's great to have it at 6.5 but not absolutely necessary. Best Regards....See MoreSo far so good-Oregon Blues
Comments (13)Yeah, remember '94 or whenever it was.....there was actually a day here in Appleton that the high temp was something like 20 below zero! That's Farenheit for you limeys and Europeans. Was talking to a nice young couple from Germany a couple weeks ago when I was down in SW Florida. When asked if we here in WI get "below zero", I knew he meant below the freezing point of water, lol! Straightened out that point of understanding. This indeed could be the year of weeding out some questionable plants, my present observations of these C. lawsoniana not withstanding. Up in that same location I have a few Green Giants which, to date, have been utterly fit for life there. Also, a couple dawn redwoods. I'd not be surprised to see any of these plants succumb. Oh well, was never a high-percentage gamble. Then again, who knows? +oM...See Moreso far...so good...wish I had not waited so long
Comments (8)Thanks grandms & mikie. Actually, when I turned on the computer today there was a notice from MS to DL IE7. Must be huge, it took 5 min. with cable connection. I like the ability to make print bigger and smaller. That always worked well on GW and email but didn't work on most sites. But now EVERYTHING is too big. This post, that looked normal last night now has me scrolling back and forth to read! Hoping someone can lead me to a setting to change? Or maybe I should start a new thread? Comments (39)YELLOW, The patio is AWESOME! Are you planning to cover the entire surface or just the "path"? We, too, have a lot of leftover floor tiles and this would be a FAB way to use them. Are you a Texas girl? I'm only asking because our local contractor said we should use porcelain tiles on our patio because of our weather. I don't wanna (too difficult to cut). Love your blue star!...See Morelarsi_gw
