Pot Luck???????????????

last modified: 10 years ago

I was paying cash in a gas station. Instead of getting change back, I got two Powerball tickets instead. There was no long line there.

As you know, no one won the last one. The new one will be way over $a billion$.

So, If I got lucky and hit the next jackpot, everyone who posted in this Cooking Forum, any post, only in this Cooking Forum, from now to the next drawing, will get a complete renovation to your kitchen in your current house. Any kitchen, whatever appliances you want. New members who just joined can be in the pot.

Wish me luck.

I never buy tickets but maybe I will now. If you win, just for a moment you would be a billionaire. Then you would pay the taxes. What a fun thing to do with the excess money, go around giving people new kitchens.

Honestly dcarch, all I would want if you win is an induction range and you to come give me some cooking lessons. Good Luck!

LOL, dcarch, I wish you luck. I haven't bought a ticket, but maybe I will.

What would I do with the money? Set up trust funds for college for the grandkids, pay off all my family's bills and then build a local soup kitchen and homeless shelter which this area needs but doesn't really have. Hey, it's food related! (grin) I could feed an awful lot of people with that much money.

After that I might take a vacation, but instead, I might just buy a tractor and farm until the money was gone, LOL.

One of the cousins usually brings her pierogies to the family reunion each year. After they are fully prepared she puts them in a slow cooker but she makes sure that they are all coated with butter so that they don't stick. I too have one of the thermal units that Glenda is talking about, it is really great if that is enough time for you. Mine has a gel pad that you heat in the microwave then insert in a pouch inside the thermal carrier.

Easy Sticky Rolls - Pull Apart Rolls 12 Rhodes Texas White rolls 1/4 stick melted butter stir in enough brown sugar to make a thin paste. Thin it down a little more with a few tablespoons of milk. Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Spray a bundt pan with Pam, sprinkle the bottom with pecans (whole or chopped). Pour the brown sugar mix over that. Place 12 rolls in the pan. Spray the rolls again with Pam. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise. Bake at 350º until golden brown. Do not take them out too soon or they will fall. You can make these and place them in the fridge over night and let rise in the morning. If you have a cool kitchen, you can let them set out overnight to rise and get up early to bake.

Pot Luck Lunch tomorrow--how far in advance today, can I ...?

I don't like cucumbers when they've been cut more than a couple of hours unless they're preserved in a salad with a plentiful acidic dressing. What you can do is prepare everything else, like the lemon zest, chopped nuts, apricots (roll in a little fine flour or sugar to keep the chunks separate), etc. You can even cut the strawberries and cherries, especially if you can put them cut side down on plastic wrap on a tray. You can make up the cream cheese filling, as well. If it won't separate, you can even load it up into your pastry bags, and wrap them tightly (no air) in plastic. Wrapping each separately and waiting to assemble will also keep your individual flavors bright and fresh. If you have your mise en place pretty much done, assembling them tomorrow shouldn't take very long.

Good gracious, that's a very generous offer! Good luck indeed!

Good luck, dcarch! I'm pretty sure it will make the news if you win. lol!

I played on Friday while getting gas and no line. I'll play again and if i win i will honor your original offer : ) ...twenty or so kitchens is peanuts for a billionaire.

In view of your generous offer, may I join cooking forum NOW

Good luck to both of you, dcarch and sleevendog. Very generous of you.

I did win BIG once....when I got my husband....He was a real winner!

What a nice compliment to your husband, shirl.

Good luck! The second part would be D'arch visiting all these kitchens to prepare a meal. Or more fairly to have a meal prepared for him.

Agmss, Agree...DC would be required to visit each kitchen to offer input.

But imagine cooking for him Mustang. Intimidating no?

OMG, you are correct I would be intimidated...most of you intimidate me! All I could fall back on would be decorating and anal organization of the kitchen.

Since I haven't bought a ticket, you are my only hope dc!

Hey Annie! If we split this 3 ways, DC can do the kitchens, you do the soup/homeless shelter kitchens and I will either fund or start a new animal shelter.

I played last Wednesday and in last nights drawing. I need to check the tickets if I got anything......

Somebody else just posted this in another forum...

Carol, I have heard a lot of horror stories about winners having a "lotto" new friends.

Good luck - it would be cool to "know" the person that won!!!

    What a lovely offer!

I've already put in the kitchen of my dreams, so perhaps if you are the sole winner, you could buy a few basic kitchens for a homes for the poor organization on my behalf?

After your dream kitchen is done, there will be no cooking for a while.

You, your better half or a friend will spend, all first class, one week eating in Paris, one week in Rome and one week in Hong Kong, to find out what kind of food you will be cooking in your brand new kitchen.

I have never bought a lottery ticket either. I really hope you win--I could really use a new kitchen.

Best of luck, dcarch. What a generous winner you would be.

Good luck! What a generous offer, but I am also one of those people that need cooking lessons more than a new kitchen!

Carol B's lottery advice is right on, I'd bet. A true test of who your REAL friends are! I'm not posting this now because I'm hoping for a new kitchen, mainly I just want to say, what a kind and generous offer, DC! And what a wonderful way to get a whole bunch of people hoping and praying that your luck holds out! Personally, rather than all the time abroad, or even a new kitchen, I'd rather see as many homeless and neglected vets as possible taken care of, with a place to live, needed medical care, jobs, and the respect and appreciation they so deserve.

I almost feel bad wishing you Good Luck, as I (like someone else here) won the Lottery of my life, when DH decided to marry me 61 years ago. I do hope you win....many in my small town could use help with another kitchen for our homeless.

Truth be told, I wouldn't mind getting a new kitchen...in fact, I would be ecstatic! But I'll still like you even if you don't win. :-)

I have the perfect kitchen and wouldn't need a makeover but weeks in eating in the wonderful places you say would make my heart sing. Of course though, I happen to have the winning ticket, so maybe I could treat you instead?

I don't need cooking lessons either. I need a cook! I can cook all right but it's a chore. My kitchen sure could do with a serious renovation but DC - I'll forego the renovation in exchange for a cook. Pls consider! I'm in the Holy Land and can provide added value prayerwise!! Hotline to the Lord!

dcarch, what a fun idea to make such an offer. I read this forum often but have never posted before. You did get some attention on the hosta forum when you used hosta leaves as edibles. The horror, lol.

I'd never expect a full kitchen remodel, but my microwave is making some scary bad sounds with flashes of light. I'm pretty sure it's a goner. I'd only ask for that. ;-)

I do know someone whose cousin won a big lotto, so it does happen. Good luck!

Ohhhh, wishing you luck!!!! I don't need a kitchen remodel, but would appreciate having the Traffic Master flooring squares that are peeling up around the edges... removed! So much for high ratings on Traffic Master--I thought I did my due diligence research, too!

All of that aside, sending you mojo !!!!

Of course you'll have to come over here and supervise the installation! Then, you can teach me your presentation techniques!

I've already bought my induction range and the floor tile, but the rest of the kitchen still needs stuff. A truly generous offer.

Really, DC! What a sweetheart you are!!!

I just heard on the news this morning that it's *illegal* to bring U.S. lottery tickets back into the U.S. if we live outside of it. IOW, I can go across the border and buy a ticket, but I wouldn't be able to take the winning ticket across the border to claim it. The border agents could confiscate it. Good grief.

So, I'll have to win vicariously, through you.

I usually I buy one Power Ball and one Hoosier for Weds. drawing and Sat. drawing, but this week I'm snowed in so no tickets. Hopefully a neighbor can take me to the auto repair shop to pick up my "snow car", the 4x4 by Saturday. You watch, there will be a winner on Weds. If I'd ever won, I would sort of do what Annie would do. Part would go to my church, part to soup kitchens and others who help the needy for free and then some to the family to help them.

Sending Good Luck Wishes as well! I wouldn't need a total kitchen reno but would love to replace my dishwasher, microwave and have my induction oven work when it's cold outside. Oh and an ice maker... and a new window to the world.

I played too. Enjoyed thinking briefly about what I'd do with the money. The funny thing is, my own wants and needs are modest. A kitchen remodel would just about do it. My next new car will be a Toyota regardless of my circumstances. I decided I will support arts, performance, and education in my city. Help develop new venues, fund young music and theater and dance companies, establish scholarships and tutoring programs for kids without means. That kind of thing. Have to figure out some way to do it anonymously, though. I like my friends and don't want a sudden rush of new ones. Okay, fantasy time over. Back to real life.

I didn't end up playing. I'd planned on it, but since I'm not driving yet... A friend came to take me to physical therapy yesterday but I completely forgot about Powerball when I was out.

I have to admit, did they draw last night, or will I have a chance tomorrow when I return to physical therapy?

What would I do if I won big?

Retire right now and finish up all of my current house build -- including the stuff I was waiting on until I sell this one (the greenhouse, the wood burning stove, etc.) I really wouldn't upgrade anything that I'm currently planning -- I still have a frugal side and am happy with a low-end DW and with tile that costs less than $3 per square foot. I have no urge to upgrade my car -- I'll stick with Subarus or Hyundais, and run them until they no longer work. I'd split my winnings with my brother, and three good friends. I might take a real nice vacation or two to a couple parts of the world I've always wanted to see, and I'd check out which causes I'd want to make a good donation to -- or maybe see about setting up a foundation to facilitate giving. (I am fond of The Nature Conservancy and Heifer International). I admit I might give in and buy some art that otherwise I'd pass over -- nothing museum-priced, though.

    Yep, back to reality...

Jasdip - would you be able to cash the ticket if you bought it and then just stayed on this side of the border until the number was drawn? Then cashed it?

    Good luck!

Artemis, yes that would be legal. It's bringing it across the border, that I couldn't do.

As far as winning a lottery, I'd be thrilled with a million, maybe 2. There's no way I could even spend 30 mil, it would all go to charity.

    With a billion......

"----- (the greenhouse, the wood burning stove, etc.) -----"

Yes of course a greenhouse is part of the kitchen. What kind of lousy kitchen it would be without a greenhouse for herbs and breakfast eating-in?

Just to get your imagination going:

My new kitchen will be in three parts:

Kitchen part A - I will hire a designer to duplicate in exact detail the historic kitchen at Monticello by Thomas Jefferson, including all historic cookware and furniture. I admire Jefferson for changing our eating habits. I will try out all jefferson's historic recipes in this kitchen.

Kitchen part B - commercial kitchen for entertaining.

Kitchen part C - Home kitchen for me to make my everyday meals.

Artemis, I'm glad that you like Hyundais! I've driven Sonatas for 15 years. I would upgrade to a Genesis, though if I hit it big. :-)

Hope your ticket wins just as I hope my husband's also wins. I have doubled my chances. I can not even imagine that kind of money our what we would do with it. Good Luck. Looking forward to that new kitchen.

Actually it occurred to me last night that while a new kitchen would be lovely, I'd much rather that the medical debt of the housemaid at the Balinese villa we like to stay at be paid off. I've always hoped to do that if _I_ win the lottery, and in the meantime DH and I gift her with as big a chunk of money as we can afford when we see her, to nibble away at it. While it's not a huge debt by _our_ standards, by hers it's the equivalent of several hundred thousand dollars, but was necessary as she needed to have part of her spine replaced with titanium as an infection had eaten away the bone and she would have died. Last time we visited we got to meet with her parents and discovered that her father's failing eyesight means he can no longer work as a skilled woodcarver and now has a lower paying job, which makes paying off the medical loan even more difficult for the family. So that's what I'd like if you win please :-)

DC, that is so sweet. Thanks. My dream would be daycare from birth for all poor babies and mothers. We'd need more than the current lottery. Just a dream but fun to dream.
