Comments (26)Natal we had a lovely day today and I was wandering around the garden thinking about how much I was going to enjoy taking the flowers in during the spring and summer. It's a new yard to us, and honestly more than I can handle, but for one summer I'm going to live like the fancy people and have fresh flowers all over the house every day :) It's been pretty mild here and the yard is full of lovely evergreens and several types of wonderful rosemary. Such deep lush scents. I've started doing little winter floral arrangements with the herbs and evergreens. All for free :) Then I just sneek in simple stuff like babys breath or a few flowers from the store among the beautiful herbs. I love fresh flowers and this silly house seems to ask for them so I'm having a great deal of fun being creative. So that's my personal little pleasure lately, but on a regular basis I thank god for every morning my son gets up healthy and goes to bed the same. It's been such a long road for him. Seeing his life become "normal" since we've moved is heaven. he's blossomed so much, and now he gets to go to school with other "normal" kids :) He's so happy about it and wants to go every day, morning and night heh heh And watching him run to the gate with his silly little thomas lunch box, full of food he will never eat (he's had the same snacks in it for two weeks and does not eat them, but wanted a lunch box like the other big kids), his happiness makes me smile. He's sick today for the first time this winter. It's a simple pleasure, but we really enjoyed the little vacation from illness. My kitty just told me to mention how much I love his purr....we've been together (kitty and I) since before DH and DS and when he crawls into bed and tries to sleep on my head, it reminds me of simpler times, which also makes me smile :)...See MoreHAPPINESS is....
Comments (20)You're kidding, right?! Choose just *one* thing for happy? Finally choosing which pattern to make after hours of admiring the beautiful quilts in books, magazines, forums, and this site.... having the double-check agree after figuring out yardage needs, and then finding that I have enough fabric on hand to get started... discovering that I *did* put a new blade in after cutting the last quilt... laying out the lapquilt and seeing that yes! the colors work just right... piecing a whole top and ALL the corners meet precisely... DH helping pin the layers, and the quilt stayed squared... machine stitch-in-the-ditch that stayed in the ditch... not getting a cramp in my hand after blindstitching the binding... the recipent's expression upon seeing the finished quilt (yeah, that's better than the cherry on top of the double-chocolate fudge sundae)... and then being able to start another one....See MoreFinding what makes you "happy"
Comments (21)Dollars invested now will take away from the dollars needed when you do the more intensive redo. Repeat. A bit of "happy" now means dollars taken away from the eventual project. Understand delayed gratification and make it your friend. With that in mind, my suggestions would be to DIY paint the cabinets. However, with the light counters and floors, painting them white would just wash everything out. Since this will be a short term solution, I'd be adventurous. Maybe a creamy yellow that could stand up to the counters. Maybe bolder. Do you have a favorite color? Replace any appliances that die with the size and finish of the ones that you want to end up with. Take the wallpaper down. That's it. Save your money and efforts for the more extensive remodel that is coming down the road. If you start down the "only" road of "only" replacing the counters, or "only" trying to put in a drawer stack, or any other "only", well, you're getting perilously close to spending your "eventually" money. Things are interlinked, and it snowballs. Stay away from it all going down hill and gathering momentum! And maybe move forward the date of the gut to 5 years from now. And in between now and then, develop your DIY abilities to cut the cost of the remodel....See MorePKponder TX Z7B
