Help me purchase art please??
Comments (8)Can you post some pictures of your room and your existing print so we can see size, how it goes with your furniture, etc? I find it easy to use tinypic.com for one-time posting. No signing into an account or anything. If I think I'll need to repeat the posting of a particular pic, I save the data on it to a word doc for future reference. You could also consider finding a local artist (see Craigslist?) and asking them to make you something. Or go take an art class and make your own. Another thought is a picture on one side, and a little shelf, a tapestry, a black and white or sepia toned pic collection, or sconces or something on the other side. Or even a grandfather clock or tall plant? Depends on your decor and your taste. Are you starting from an inspiration picture of how you want your finished room to look? Comments (27)Thanks Rosie. That painting is a pleasure for me on so many levels - the crazy coloring, the "art" labeling, the primitiveness... I am way too constrained to create that freely. And then there is the personal - knowing all DH was going through at the time and his very surprising decision to try painting for respite. It inspires me. For the OP, reflect on what is appealing to you about those museum pieces you like. Crystalize that as best you can. Any gallery would be happy to help you discover works you love, for a price. If that price is prohibitive, try 'lesser' galleries, student art shows, resale shops, art fairs - just look and trust yourself to respond. Let yourself make a mistake or two, it's the only way to learn what you really love. And yes, framing can make all the difference....See MoreThe art consultant sent me a proposal for art in my living room! WDYT?
Comments (65)This OP has posted several dilemmas lately. I started reading this one from the onset and yes, there are several of the more critical posts missing. She clearly was happy about the selections and appeared to want validation from the people that had helped her with her other dilemmas. One of the first comments on my first dilemma on here was devastating to me and left me very upset. Fortunately, I have a thick skin and just flagged it and then along came some wonderful people to help me. Sometimes certain contributors just go too far. I’ve seen many OPs run off from this forum, but this is the first I’ve seen someone completely delete their account. THINK before you comment people! You could make or break someone’s day with your words...See MoreArt overload (and loving it!)
Comments (53)I'm not inclined to put art on the wall just to decorate. I prefer to live with objects that have meaning to me. When I was in college, I saw drawings by a local artist and fell in love. A year later when I got a job in my field, I tracked down the artist. She she still had 3 40" x 60" pieces from the exhibit. This is Witch Tree VIII. The materials are paper, lead, tobacco juice and vermillion, which are traditional gifts to the tree. The image is what Hazel saw lying one her back and looking up through Manidoo-giizhikens (aka Witch Tree, Little Cedar Spirit Tree). I'm fortunate to know a framer who is excellent in framing to enhance the art. It hangs in my dining room. Here's a link to a local TV new story on the tree.
