Companion suggestions for tea rose hedge?
Comments (14)Maurizio i am not a very good planner. My idea for a hedge is because is have overbought ; ) i will try to work the smaller teas i have in beds and borders but these are the larger ones i am thinking i might use in a hedge: Monsieur Tillier Mrs. BR Cant Arcadia Louisiana Tea Niles Cochet Mrs. Dudley Cross Mme. Lambard Vintage lists these as a '3' in growth habit so i'm sure they will go big. These others are classed as a '2' and shown to be head high in the catalog but i suspect may go bigger? My Duchesse de Brabant that has been in the ground from a 3 gallon pot since only last June is 4x4 in a dry year. Angel's Camp Tea Clementina Carbonieri Duquesa Frances Grate's Tea General Gallieni Souvenir de Pierre Notting Rosette DeLizy Louis Phillipe Mlle. Franziska Krueger I have found some mistakes in my thinking so this is a good exercise for me! ex. Gen. Schablikine i thought was a large tea but Vintage shows only waist high. The suggestion for V.t. 'Atropurpurea' is excellent. i have one in a pot now and have been wondering what to do with it. It is bullet proof in my conditions. Sometimes i fail to see the obvious. Thank-you. Randy i want to clarify-Lavender loves Maui-in fact some folks farm it here. It is only me that it doesn't like ; (...See MoreNeed a white rose for a pot - suggestions please
Comments (10)Thank you, I'm looking for a regular size rose though like Bolero, not a miniature or polyantha. Although I have to say I'm in love with Gormet popcorn and Ducher. I just may pick Ducher up for myself, as I have a perfect place for it. Sadly RU doesn't carry Gormet Popcorn. Christopher I am more than sure Stephanie at RU will be able to guide us in our selection. My neighbor's husband is not coming with us, and he is truely the gardener of the family and is the one that likes white roses. I already gave him the website but I was hoping to guide him with some suggestions since most of RU's website just states the names of the roses and it would be quite time consuming for him to look each one up on hmf. I'm about as excited as they are for their first rose, so I have to admit I'm enjoying talking with them about it too!...See MoreI need to replace hybrid tea roses with OGR or David Austin
Comments (22)Lenie, I read your post and read your list of selections. I am a bit south of you, but I do grow all my roses without chemical support. I grow all the roses on your list except Eglantyne and Easy does it. From your list I would recommend the following: Charles de mills Belle amour Comte de chambord Felicite parmentier Fantin latour Tuscany superb Madame hardy Graham thomas Moinuex Pat Austin Sophy's rose Benjamin britten Belinda's dream Charles Darwin Tamora Charlotte I left all of the David Austins on your list because you indicated that you are willing to spray. I am not willing to spray. I do have a rather high tolerance for BS. There are some David Austins that seem to be doing rather well for me without spray: Sweet Juliet Alexandra Rose Comte des Champagnes Benjamin Britten Constance Spry Tess of the d'Urbevilles Teasing Georgia Queen of Sweeden Malvern Hills I'm sure there are more in the garden, but these seem to perform well enough. I would also recommend that you consider: Shailer's Provence The Bishop White Cap Darlow's Enigma Marcessa Bocella Jenny Duval Daybreak Salet I guess I could go on ad infinitum suggesting OGRs for a no spray garden. Good luck. Robert...See MorePlease help me identify this yellow rose, probably a tea
Comments (47)Thank you, Leo. I am thrilled that you have joined the forum. We actually met a couple of years ago and you graciously gave my friend and me a tour of this fantastic rose garden. You are not only a knowledgable and dedicated curator but also a gracious person. I mentioned you in my comment up on this thread. I posted the photo of this gorgeous rose on helpmefind.com and a couple of rosarians, as it were from Australia, contested that it's Mme de Watteville. I eventually had to remove the photo I posted there because I didn't want to cause any controversy and one HMF member felt very strongly that it was not Mme de Watteville. Either way it's gorgeous. I was so excited about the incredible roses you grow there that I enthusiastically posted on my visit to this garden twice on this forum: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/4807667/visit-to-armstrong-park-rose-garden-nola https://www.houzz.com/discussions/4965219/new-orleans-rose-gardens-update-generals-noisettes-fairies BTW, I initiated that Louis Armstrong Rose Garden is included among the public gardens on helpmefind.com and provided them with the list as I saw them on tags during my visits in 2017 and 2018. If and when you have time, please take a look at that list and correct if any need be added or removed. The link is here: https://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=3.25191&tab=32 Based on that list, a dedicated administrator provided the links for each rose in the garden: https://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=3.25191&tab=2 General information with your name as the curator is here: https://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=3.25191&tab=1 I will be in New Orleans later this summer and hope we'll have a chance to meet again. Thank you for the wonderful work you are doing preserving the roses....See MoreSheila z8a Rogue Valley OR
