I've been underwhelmed by the Austin roses in my garden here in MD. They are not that healthy, and rebloom is always stingy.

My favorite ogrs are the gallicas, once-blooming but one shrub will give you more flowers than you can count. They have sumptuous, purply-pink flowers that make my heart swoon every year. Albas are good too. Some mosses, especially Henri Martin, are also wonderful.

Reblooming ogrs may need more care to do well here. Teas are not very winter-hardy but have done well so far for me. I think my hill-top garden stays a bit warmer. Duchesse de Brabant and Smith's Parish are very healthy teas that bloom their heads off for me. Bourbons are disease prone except for Souvenir de la Malmaison which is healthy and blooms ALL the time. Others here in MD have said that it is a terrible rose here, which goes to show that you can get tons of expert advice but sometimes you just have to see how a rose performs in your garden. Gruss an Aachen is another rose that is fairly healthy with good repeat.

Shrub roses that have done well for me and others in our area include: Prairie Harvest, Mother of Pearl, Quietness, and Earth Song.
