OK! OK ! I Surrender to the deer.......
Comments (2)I garden alongside a big herd of deer. I have a water feature -- waterfall and manmade stream. I have a small fenced flower garden and I have lots of flower/shrub gardens outside my fence. After seeing all the hypericum (St. John's Wort) planted around the Inn at Biltmore, I planted lots of hypericum x hidcote shrubs -- 3x3, mounded, semi-evergreen, yellow blooms all summer. I planted the groundcover (which can be invasive, so I put it in a controlled space) Hypericum calycinum. It's 1x2 and flowers. I've had Hypericum albans purple for awhile and it's nice with the burgundy foliage. Deer won't eat ferns and those are great around a waterfall in the shade. Astilbe are fine. Farfugium japonicum works. I have cryptomeria and they leave those alone. They haven't bothered my gardenias or heuchera, but they may if hungry enough. Since you're feeding your deer, that may not be a problem. So far, they've left my Deutzia alone. No problem with crepe myrtles, there are many sizes available. Don't know if you can grow those in the mountains? There are many ornamental grasses that deer don't like. They don't eat monarda (bee balm), rosemary, thyme, lavender. They don't eat nepeta, dianthus Bath's Pink, stachys (lamb's ear) or delosperma (ice plant). They don't eat coreopsis, scabiosa, indigo, salvia. They don't bother these trees/shrubs: deodar cedar, sweet bay magnolia (though they like to rub on it), southern magnolia (rubbing), osmanthus fragrans, cotinus (smoke tree), butterfly bush. Best of luck!...See MoreUPDATE: Birthday Bash 2009 Open Discussion round 3
Comments (110)Bunny I'm sorry the ick is running amuck in your household. Good thing the little ones can bounce back faster then us. I am amazed at how fast they can recoup and it takes us a WHOLE lot longer. I guess that is the price you pay for getting older. Thanks for the tips, but I don't like raspberry anything and for some reason just this year peppermint makes me sick I just can't stand the flavor anymore, and I LOVE peppermint candy canes! Don't know WHAT I am gonna do about that this Christmas, BUT I am thinking it is just the gum I was trying to chew. It was the extreme flavor burst stuff and it was overwhelming! Really turned my stomach though, so I am thinking it was just TOO much flavor from the gum. I will have to try to find some lavender oil to check that out. I am prone to sore throats, sinus issues and all which usually turn into a sore throat OR bronchitis which I have chronic bronchitis. SO ANYTIME I start getting sick I can almost always bet on a bout with that. That is ALWAYS fun to have too (yeah, ummm NOT!!!) NIKKI....I went outside while ago to just sit and stare at my seed babies I started. THEY are just sitting there too! I talked to my mom a few minutes ago and told her that, she said and THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING AS COLD AS THE NIGHTS ARE....bring them in the house! So I went outside after talking to her to "look" at them to try to figure out IF I want to go that route...I SHOULD have waited a bit before trying to start them BUT I wanted to see what they would do...oh well, I KNEW better, I WAS hoping the cold wouldn't reach us until Nov! Then they would have had time to do something. Deb, honey, how are you? How is your mom? I am sure you are busy with her this week. Just know that I am thinking of you both. Hoping for a speedy recovery with the surgery and praying all else falls into place and she is completely well soon. Vic, how was your first day at work? All is good I hope, hopefully this is your job you were hoping for. Mariann, I hope you are feeling better honey, I know how bad it was. Are you finally sleeping better now? Marie, just thought I would say HI!!! HI! lol. Kym, glad you cleaned out your email. I will shoot you a line just so you will have my new email addy so you won't have to go searching for it. How are you by the way? diene, how is your weather and you? Hope you are well. Haven't heard much from you lately. How's it going? Ok ya'll, you know it is less then a week away now...ARE WE READY???? I know you are Deb,,,hehe. Ok, guess I have said enough, and I like, Bunny prolly need to go lay back down...ugghhh!!! I HATE BEING SICK!!!! This is the 3rd stinking time this month! Seriously thinking about holding my nose and downing some Red Raspberry leaf tea! Or the extract......if it will boost me up, Bunny you SURE it will help? (grumbling, I really DON't LIKE raspberry, but I am WILLING to TRY anything at the moment)Humm, Bunny? Will it? Will it really? :) Fran...See MoreOK to throw it away - thank you
Comments (28)This is a great thread! I know my clutter keeps me from being able to fully enjoy my home. My garage becomes the dumping ground when company is coming over. Parts of my house and garage are overwhelming...... The work bench is covered with little bits that need a home; screws, washers, nails, etc. Reading this thread gives me the hope that I can decide to just junk it! 2 years ago when my son was first going off to college he told me he just couldn't bring himself to throw out all those school papers from years gone by. My advice to him was to make a stack of what he wanted to keep, scan it and throw out the paper copy. I told him that by the time he had done 10% of the stack, he would decide that about 90% of the remaining stack wasn't worth the effort to scan and would just pitch it into the recycle bin. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at following the same advice I gave him. I want to keep tabs on this thread and continue to be inspired....See MoreIs it ok to have throw pillows that match the curtains?
Comments (30)@nosoccermom – I love the floor seating idea in the first picture you posted. Where is that from? I am looking to do something in my kids playroom area and that looks really nice. @missymoo12…yes the pillows I was thinking were small lumbar pillows (round). I was thinking of just one on each sofa. But after seeing some of the pictures here, may add some additional ones. The fabric I saw on fabric.com and also on amazon. The curtains I am thinking of having made from Etsy where coincidentally a few sellers already have the same fabric. http://www.amazon.com/Richloom-Gallery-Ayers-Jewel-Fabric/dp/B0178AQ63Y/ref=pd_sim_sbs_201_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=61P1v6GcmAL&dpSrc=sims&preST=AC_UL160_SR160%2C160&refRID=0JCF5Z9XXFST4VHBN59W https://www.fabric.com/buy/0405634/richloom-r-gallery-ayers-jewel?CAWELAID=172000510000773346&cm_mmc=google--Google+Shopping--GS_fabric-_-_mkwid|sd6Ibqsjp|pcrid|46683858482|pkw||pmt||pdv|c|&utm_source=google&utm_term=&utm_campaign=Google+Shopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=sd6Ibqsjp|pcrid|46683858482|pkw||pmt||pdv|c|&gclid=CIqN1_Oi38sCFQckhgoddIsPjw https://www.etsy.com/listing/264812132/designer-richloom-r-gallery-ayers-jewel?ref=shop_home_active_3&ga_search_query=jewel https://www.etsy.com/listing/287149021/pair-of-25-wide-richloom-gallery-rod?ref=shop_home_active_1 @forri…yes I do plan to add few more things as budget allows, it definitely does look too clean and empty for nowJ. I found a natural sisal rug (12x15) with a grey border for the bottom layer rug, now I am looking for a 7x9 rug to go on top. Was trying to pick colors from the fabric, don’t think I will go with blue (I already have a lot of that color in another room), maybe green or red. Thank you to everyone else for the suggestions!
