Depth of cabinet for Kohler Stages 45

I'm fine on the width of the cabinet ... and I know that a Stages sink CAN be mounted in a standard 24"deep cabinet ... but SHOULD it be?

The pictures of these sinks always show them on an island or a wide peninsula, but I'm going to mount mine in a U-shaped kitchen under an opening into the living room. Not unlike this picture (though obviously this isn't a Stages sink):

In reality, do I need a deeper countertop -- maybe 2 or 3 inches deeper? -- to allow for a more comfortable faucet placement? ease of cleaning?

Do you need it? No, the sink is 18.5" wide. The standard counter depth is 24 inches and everything is made for that. Would you like extraspace? Yes. But it can get extremely costly.

I fit the stages 45 into a shallower than standard cabinet run (old house) by putting the faucets on the sides.

crl, for how you plan to use the sink with two faucets, I would not get the stages because of the integrated drainboard--i.e., someone on the drainboard end of the sink turning a faucet on full blast and making a splashy mess of things. Instead, I would get a large single bowl sink like this 48" whopper: "BIG Sink" Or this smaller one that has an integrated ledge that allows you to use Stages like accessories: "36 Single" Note-- Top mount sinks can generally be undermounted if that is a concern....although, in your space constricted situation, you may decide to use a laminate counter top because solid surface usually demand more dead space in front of the sink. And, since no one else has weighed in on the Weymouth...I think it looks too fussy, esp. in pairs...too "Look at ME". And a lot more trouble to keep wiped down. I realize that you're shooting for a vintage feel...but, IMO, the Weymouth kinda shouts faux vintage in a not very good way. But, keep in mind that this is just the impression of someone who has hard water and yields more to contemporary and/or utilitarian faucet design.

Thank you both. The photo really helps bbtrix. Useful seeing it doesn't affect the aesthetics and balance at all. I thought it'd look like the sink was off centre but with that end being shallow, it doesn't at all. i have searched too and am finding lots of useful info just really hadn't seen many pics of what ours may actually look like

The only way to not have a huge base cabinet (48"+) under this sink is to use a 36" base + a 15 or 18" base, but not a DW. A DW needs to come up to the underside of the counter top. It will not fit under the ledge. This is what we did, but of course the the whole set up can be flipped so the DW is on the right and the ledge + extra base is on the left. Depending on your cabinets, a 15" or 18" base will fit under the ledge and be totally operational. Note that the walls between the larger and smaller bases will need trimming to allow the ledge to bridge the two. Typically people on here use the smaller base for a trash pullout with a utensil/knife drawer above the trash. A 3 or 4 drawer stack would also work if you need to go with the 15" base. Some cabinets need to have a bit shaved off the top drawer to miss the underside of the ledge, although ours didn't (InnerMost). If you decide to do this, it's helpful to cut the hook for the accessories rack off the bottom of the sink just to get it out of the way. The accessories, of course, then need to go elsewhere than where Kohler planned. OR Go with the 48" base and install a trash pull out under the sink on the ledge side.The also necessitates putting the accessories elsewhere.

Practigal, I'm not overly concerned about the expense. I'm thinking of pulling the standard 48" sink base forward 2-3", which would mean a bit more countertop but not more cabinet expense. Anyway, if it makes the sink function better, I'm fine with paying.

CRL, How are you liking those faucets on the side?

I just had to mount a faucet on the side on a sink retrofit. The people love that it doesn't block the view at the bar as much.

I love them actually. It was one of the more difficult choices--bump out sink, wall mount faucets, faucets on side. I couldn't find many pictures of faucets on the side but decided to go with it. They are easier to reach--Extra nice for my kids-- and I think they look good. I honestly might consider it even without the space crunch.

But the side of the cabinet had to be hacked out some to get the faucets installed and future replacements will be slightly more challenging. There might be a better way to do it--I left the execution up to my gc.
