Kohler Stages 45

This is our island, we have just cancelled an order for an 800mm Belfast sink (that would have been undermounted) due to the company not getting their *hit together I ordered at the end of September and they dispatched first week of October. It's still not here and we've tried three times now to get it delivered / left in a safe place etc the final straw was on Saturday We were in all day but the courier called, didn't leave a note or the sink despite me authorising the courier company to leave it in a safe place the company I ordered it with originally wanted to charge me another £25 redeliver fee so I lost it and cancelled the order and have taken it up with PayPal ( rant over)

anyway, onto the next as they say, I have always loved the kohler stages since getting to know about it on here. We are getting Carrara work tops and I really am drawn to the prep ability over the sink etc that is possible with the Stages. will it fit in to our cabinet of 900mm as the shelf bit can go to the 350mm cab on the left or right, we could get the cabinet guy to notch out / build the cabs to suit the sink if we kept the layout the same as the pic

( not decided which way round yet) or should I let the cabinet maker know we would like to change the layout of sink side of island pic of rough plan below Also if any of you have any pics of a stages in a smaller cabinet that would be great Advice on fitting would be great too

Do a search on this site and send photos to your cabinet maker. Our island is similar to yours and will have a functioning drawer and cabinet for trash below the tray, which is to the right of the 36 inch base. Sorry I do not have photos to share yet -- hopefully next week. Good luck!

It is definitely doable. As night owl suggests, you'll find much info here on the Stages45 if you do a search. Mine is installed over a 36" sink base with a 24" notched cab on the right. It was not difficult. Here is a post that has some of my install pix and many good links.

5500 is the best designed faucet on the market with regard to ergonomics. It has a whopping 11" reach. What that means is, the dimension from the center of the base to the center of where the water drops is 11". Most faucets are centered and installed 2" behind the bowl. That means the water, with this faucet model, will drop water 9" into a bowl. Most faucets have the water dropping in the rear third of the bowl, causing the user to bend and reach to work under the water - which is uncomfortable and even painful for many users. The 5600 is a poor design. I worked with Waterstone years ago and offered a redesign for the 5600 - which is the 5610 angled faucet. The angle helps a bit, by allowing the water to drop slightly closer to the user, however, it is not nearly as comfortable to use as the 5500 model. The reach of the pullout is nowhere near as important as the reach in the home position. That being said, we have used the 5500 on 54" sinks with ease.This page has some videos and illustrations that might be helpful.

Hi there smm5525. I studied ergonomics while I was a kitchen designer. Ergonomics has been a major factor in my sink designs. I based the height of the ledges on my many years of studies. Cutting at that level does not force a downward angle. If you look in the video above, you will see there is no downward angle required. It is very comfortable to cut veggies, etc. I actually pioneered this and many other ideas. The double tiered sink has three patents on the design. I also came up with the rear corner drain about 18 years ago. I saw many sink companies with rear corner drains this year at KBIS. I am so glad to see that. The sinks with interior ledges, both single and double were also my ideas quite some time before everyone got on board. I have about 13 patents on my designs. Sadly, some companies have copied them figuring I am a small company and I would not get in a fight with the big guys. They are right! I completely understand. I never would have paid that much for a sink either. I ordered a blanco super single. The plumber provided a double sink to the counter fabricator instead. They looked all over to find me a single sink that would fit the hole cut for a double. We initially tried Kohler strive which seemed basically same sink but center drain. It didn't work but the 8 degree did. I didn't pay the difference since it was their fault and the alternative was to get a new slab of granite. I would never have spent so much on a sink before, but now I've had it honestly I would sacrifice something else bc I love it that much. It works really well for our family, and I use it many times a day so I really appreciate it. Good luck, I also had no idea it was so hard to find a single sink not to mention around here it is not common so the plumber, contractor and counter guys all thought I was crazy for insisting on a single instead of just taking the double that fit the hole they cut.

I am wondering the same thing. I just decided it would be a good idea to get the Stages 45 sink (the basin size on the 33 was looking too smal). I had planned to get a nice modernist faucet like the beautiful Vola https://cdn.remodelista.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/img/sub/uimg/06-2012/700_faucets-vola-faucets.png or one of its many knock-offs like the Kohler Purist: http://www.homedepot.com/p/KOHLER-Purist-Single-Handle-Pull-Out-Sprayer-Kitchen-Faucet-in-Polished-Chrome-K-7505-CP/202388611 I DEFINITELY need a sprayer, whether pull-out or separate. But would that be enough to reach all corners of this big boy, if I put it in the center (or any optimal spot)? I hate those Karbon faucets, and I don't even like the huge arcing ones that look like a hose is over the sink. Would one plain ol' fairly petite kitchen faucet with a pull out or separate next door sprayer be enough, or will I need two faucets? I hope not as I'm not fond of how that looks either and our plumbing is complicated enough. Any advice/experience?? Thanks!

Thank you both. The photo really helps bbtrix. Useful seeing it doesn't affect the aesthetics and balance at all. I thought it'd look like the sink was off centre but with that end being shallow, it doesn't at all.

i have searched too and am finding lots of useful info just really hadn't seen many pics of what ours may actually look like
