Bump - I am in a world of hurry and sure could use some help. In one day last week, my dryer stopped working, the hot water heater quit and the painter who was hired to paint my cabinets, remove wallpaper and paint - sold his company and stopped returning my calls. The kitchen ceiling is already down and I have about 2 weeks to get some things done. Which may drive some decisions...... I started with only a small cosmetic update - and you may identify with me that as we've gotten into it, it's grown. Anyway, IF I can decide on a farmhouse sink and could get delivery in about 2 weeks, I would love to have one. I have been reading this website for a couple of yrs and I know about lead times, but I'm just hoping someone could answer one question at least today. If I have my laminate countertop cut for a 33 x 22" sink which I have now, can I swap it for another sink later? I will have to live with top mount - no other choice at this late date. Any guidance would be seriously appreciated. By the way - here's what happened last week... - the kitchen designer showed up and found me a painter inside of 20 minutes who came over an hour later and bid $600 less on the job than the first guy, the hot water heater had the vacuum hose knocked off from a kid standing a piece of wood next to it and falling over - so fixed in literally 1 minute and the heating Co didn't charge me for stopping by, and mysteriously, the dryer is still limping along which is good because I really don't have time for it right now. I felt like I had the Divine Hand handling it all because I didn't even freak with 4 different trucks in the driveway and total chaos.

Quilt girl--that's really beautiful. No, my setup works fine even if you wanted to go the scribed route. But, I guess I became concerned a few weeks ago when I read on here that the granite/countertop would have to be removed to change out the sink if the sink ever needed to be replaced. But, with a larger sink base that was not the case. The sink could be easily replaced from underneath without removing the countertop. Too late for my kitchen, but thought I might save you a little trouble by mentioning it. Hopefully, the sink in my kitchen will last forever. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I have 9' celings. I have 18" between the counter and uppers (= 16" betweeen counter and light rail). On one wall I have 42" cabinets, minimal crown and open space to the ceiling. On the other wall I have 42" cabinets + 12" stacked above it, and a minimal crown. I like the look of the two heights, and it worked for my kitchen - if my kitchen were smaller, and I needed every inch of storage, I would have done the stacked 12" cabinets on both sides. I chose the 12" stack above the 42" cabinets for the following reasons: (A) a big crown is just not my taste for a kitchen, though of course your taste and decor may be different (I love big crowns in libraries and dens though), (B) wanted the extra storage of the additional 12" cabinets, for things like holiday decorations, and other seldom-used items that I nevertheless need to store somewhere, and (C) didn't want the look of 48" uppers + crown; I just simply preferred the look of the stack, plus I wanted some separation in my cabinets from those seldom-used items I store in the 12" uppers. HTH.

I have the Ikon 33 in a 36” cabinet - so I think the same principle applies to the Ikon 30. I’m not a cabinet maker but I think you need the few inches extra of frame so the cabinet itself has support. Especially how it tapers thicker to the bottom. At the bottom of sink is exactly 1.5” left of cabinet face on each side. I hope you can find a way to make it work, I totally adore this sink, both looks and function. Not sure of your layout dilemma but I’d suggest trying for the 33 in a 36 cabinet, is there another cabinet nearby that could go down 6” smaller?
