Smallest cabinet to hold Kohler 45-inch stages
Comments (5)Ours will be a beverage/prep sink. Bowl size is around 20x18, which is what I want, but my Dear Partner can't live without his double-bowl 36" sink for dishes. Check out rjr's review -- you can see that the Stages has a bracket on the underside of the drainboard (where you can mount an optional pull-out accessory rack in the cab below), which is another inch or so. You can see in the photos how rjr modified the cabinet drawer to accommodate the bracket. And forget what I said about the countertop (duh): the Stages is undermount, so the drainboard will be nearly 2 inches lower than the bottom of your counter, plus the inch or so for that bracket, so you'll need a 38"+ high cabinet to get a normal DW under there. Even if you could remove the bracket, that means you're looking at cabinets at least 2" higher than normal. I'm actually putting my prep sink in a 40" tall bar/peninsula, but everyone in my family is freakishly tall. Good luck!...See MoreDesigning a large island for the Kohler Stages 45?
Comments (6)mama goose: I do like the peninsula idea. It would allow the kitchen to stay somewhat smaller and possibly allow for a better work zone. It would be a barrier when grilling, but I dont think it would be that big of a deal. I do like the idea of a raised counter to obscure the kitchen mess, not sure how a two level peninsula would look? Also, I'm not sure how a peninsula might change the feel of things. Previously I really wanted both a formal dining room with a fairly closed off kitchen and a small nook (possibly just a banquette). Unable to find a plan with all of that, I moved in to this plan. And while it just has one eating space (which i like for efficiency- why devote two spaces in the house to eating?) it still has a formal dining room feel vs and eat in kitchen. I'm worried that a peninsula might make it more like and eat in kitchen, which I desperately want to avoid. The large island was kind of symmetrical to the dining room, which seemed more formal or something. I'll have to ponder the peninsula vs island some more....See MoreKohler stages 33 + prep sink OR the big bad stages 45 only?
Comments (5)Stages is a prep sink. If you're going to take advantage of its features, it's the place you prepare your ingredients. Since you have room for it, go for the big one. Part of the point is that you can use the accessories to make it into counter space as well. OTOH, if you tend to leave a lot of dirty dishes in your sink, hide them there, having a separate clean-up sink for hiding the dishes is a good idea. Alternatively, have you seen the Galley sink??...See Moreyes, it's me with yet another question about the kohler stages 45
Comments (118)Hi there smm5525. I studied ergonomics while I was a kitchen designer. Ergonomics has been a major factor in my sink designs. I based the height of the ledges on my many years of studies. Cutting at that level does not force a downward angle. If you look in the video above, you will see there is no downward angle required. It is very comfortable to cut veggies, etc. I actually pioneered this and many other ideas. The double tiered sink has three patents on the design. I also came up with the rear corner drain about 18 years ago. I saw many sink companies with rear corner drains this year at KBIS. I am so glad to see that. The sinks with interior ledges, both single and double were also my ideas quite some time before everyone got on board. I have about 13 patents on my designs. Sadly, some companies have copied them figuring I am a small company and I would not get in a fight with the big guys. They are right! All in all, I am pleased to see my ideas spread through the industry. Dino Rachiele...See Moremrspete
