Bosch, KitchenAid, Electrolux or (?) wall oven
Comments (23)Have had a 27" 500 series Bosch wall oven for almost three years and have been pleased in all respects. Quiet fan and large oven capacity for the size. The oven light goes off each time the door is closed so it has to be turned back on if you want it to stay on during baking. That is a pain, but not a major issue. I do have to rotate items once for even baking. If you want items to brown, convection must be used. For convection, Bosch says to reduce temp by 25 degrees and that has worked for me. Overall, the oven has the feel of a quality product. Although not metal, knobs still look like new. I think they'll hold up nicely long term. I don't tempt fate by using the self-clean feature. The interior walls seem to clean easily so I'm OK with that. I had planned to special order an easy glide rack, but the standard racks are hefty and glide nicely so have decided to stay with standard. You might search online to see if you can still special order. Compare prices through different vendors. Of course this review does not speak to possible issues with current models. I've known a few people who have had durability problems with KA ovens and would not go with them again. I feel your pain going through that headache of appliance shopping. Comments (40)Ya know, they were lucky, as I recall, you gotta have a funny like key thingie to remove the oven from the cabinet as I recalls, and I haven't the foggiest notion where mine is (removal Key). I best finds that succer, practice how to use it, and then put it where I know where it is! If the oven was off, when this happened, it should be reported to the proper safety committee, if it was off, "Your call", myself I might wait to see what Electrolux has to say, but if it turned itself on, then that's pretty serious! I had a cooktop, (Not Electrolux & not induction) that turned itself full on one nite and scared the *&%#@% (well you know), out of me! The company that made it went belly up, or I would have reported it. Gary...See MoreLong Duct Run for Vented Dryer vs. Condenser Dryer
Comments (20)gordonr, If there's nothing else I've learned during the course of my renovations, I've learned that everything ends up being more complicated than you expect. Once you open up the ceiling or the wall, there always seems to be something in the way of what you want to do. A floor joist where the tub drain needed to be, pipes where I wanted recessed lights to go, and now the recessed light over the tub is where it would make sense to run the duct. I can hardly wait to get to the kitchen renovation! I spoke with a rep in Miele's technical service group yesterday. Initially he was telling me he thought what I wanted to do entailed too long a stretch of duct - that it would reduce the performance of the dryer. I told him I expected that it would not be optimal performance, but what I was trying to determine was whether it would reduce it to the extent that a condenser dryer would have the same performance. He didn't seem to understand what I was getting at, so I gave an example: If the vented model has 15% better performance than the condenser model and the venting I'm doing reduces performance by 15%, then the condenser model would be generally equivalent, but if the vented dryer's performance is 50% greater, the same 15% reduction in performance would still mean the vented dryer was a better choice. I asked if he could give me any information about how much better the vented dryer's performance was than the condenser model and how much the venting I was considering would reduce the vented dryer's performance. At that point, he said he wanted to talk with one of the senior technical reps and put me on hold. When he came back, he told me that the dryer was rated for up to 60 feet (which I already knew) and that I should be fine with what I was planning on doing. He also told me that the sr. rep had indicated that having a condenser dryer in a closet could be problematic because it puts off a lot more heat than a vented dryer - you'd need a lot more air circulation into the closet with a condenser dryer. The closet I'll be putting the w/d into is 68" wide by 29" deep, so the extra heat and air circulation need may not have been as much of an issue for me as it might be for others with a more confined space. One learning that I took away from this: if you start to get the sense that the technical or customer service person you're talking to may not be as knowledgeable as you'd like, ask to talk with a senior rep. Like anywhere else, initial phone calls will be answered by more junior staff who will route the more complicated issues to more experienced staff. I've decided to go with a vented dryer, and now just need to decide between the Miele and the Asko. I'll let everyone know which one I end up with. Jan...See MoreElectrolux Washers and Dryers
Comments (42)Just exchanged my Samsung steam washer and dryer for the Electrolux Wavetouch. Only had it 2 days now and can't believe the difference from the Samsung. The Samsung was the worst appliance I have every purchased. Especially the dryer. Not one single load, in 2 weeks, came out fluffy and dry. It rolled everything into a ball so nothing inside the ball was dry. Even if I put just a few things in the dryer it would shut off when the clothes were still wet, no matter what setting I used. The controls were hard to use and it took too many steps to start the wash. The Electrolux is GREAT!! Turn the dial to the cycle, push start and it goes. The clothes are clean, put them in the dryer turn the dial, push start and they are dry and fluffy. Just the way it is supposed to work. The lights even come on when you open the doors. Imagine that. With the Samsung you would have to push the power button first for the lights to come on. The stupidest thing I have ever seen. Even my 20 year old Maytag knew that the light should come on everytime you open the door. It wouldn't shut the light off if you left the door open though, the Electrolux does. They also remember your settings for each cycle, so you don't have to make several choices EVERY time you start a load. Sorry for the long post but I just can't believe what a bad product Samsung put out. And to top it off, all the reviews are great. Even Consumer Reports rates the Samsung the highest (the reason I bought it). Electrolux tops everything....See More- 8 years agolast modified: 8 years ago
