Thanks for replying! Hmm...well i did water it when i bought it from walmart...I don't have any different soil what kind should i buy for it? I put my plants at that window because its the brightest. Its very bright and strong until about noon.

I don't think you can easily buy kind of mix I am referring to - many of succulent growers mix their own from ingredients purchased individually. It is very easy done, but sourcing ingredients may take little time depending on where you are located, and also on your willingness/ability/interest in doing so. You can start with something easier to get: purchase bag of cacti&succulent soil, bag of perlite and mix these 2 together, using lots of perlite - at least 50% of the total volume, or even more. Succulents grow best in well-drained and aerated mix, not the fine soil that compacts and holds too much moisture. If you could get some grit, it would be even better to add some to the mix.

You could also visit the Cacti&succulent forum here on houzz, you can read many, many posts about jades, with great photos included.

Sunny window is the best for the jade.

Domineque, the link I am about to hook you up with will change the way you grow in containers for ever..Being as young as you are and seeing you are just starting out, I would get this info under my belt before buying any other plants....Once you can begin to undestand the concept of good porous mixes and how they affect healthy roots systems, you will be golden...You will have all the support you need there in that thread..Ask any questions you want and I can promise you it will be hard for you to loose any plants to root rot, bugs, and of course salt damage.....

I have tons of jades growing specifically in the gritty 1.1.1 mix and versions thereof...You will learn to make your own mixes which can be done at minimal cost and ten times better than any bagged mix on the market))

In that mix, your jades should be ok for now, but make sure not to over water and let that mix dry out between waterings. Putting them in a very sunny spot will help them get by in that mix until you choose a much more porous one in which jades thrive in

Dom, your Jade is still young which is the reason stems are leaning.

Once they strengthen, they'll grow upright.

How tall is each stem?

Your new plant will most likely slow its grow during winter months, 'Jades aren't the fastest growers to begin with,' but eventually, you'll have a large specimen.

Don't over-water, especially throughout the dark days of winter. I allow soil to dry between watering.

Yeah it looks dehydrated. The roots are the first place I would check. Take the sucker out and look at the roots. Tapla's Overview like Mikerno said is such an amazing resource. I have read it several times. Once you get an idea of "generally" what a plant needs then it becomes easier. Those dang roots though.. I bet they are rotten. No roots no plant.

Toni - I respectfully disagree - even young plant, having good roots, should not be leaning. If it is, there is something to be corrected.

So, maybe they are cuttings that didn't grow (enough) roots yet - that is what I suggested in the first place; but stores usually sell them rooted. And there are many other possibilities that have been mentioned, some very minor and most very easily corrected.

There doesn't seem to be anything seriously wrong with the plant (at least not visible in the photos), but if there is 'beginning' of the problem, it will be worse as time goes on unless corrected.

I agree with Rina. The plant's age has nothing to do with whether or not it's self supporting. The closest reason that might be construed as being age related would pivot on the fact that a freshly planted cutting that didn't yet have a root system that provided adequate anchorage might have a tendency to flop over on its side, but that's not an age-related issue. O jeez - I just noted that's what Rina said, and Rina would be spot on. Both Mike and Rina have offered you good direction, IMHO.

Domineque, the roots look fine for 2-3" height.
They're young.

Growers should wait for plants to mature before shipping off to stores but all they're worried about is $.

If I was to remove a stem cutting from one of my Jades, it'd be rootless. As stem matures, roots would grow, too

BTW, Domineque. My Jades are potted in MG, 'cactus and succulent' mix, coarse sand, tiny pebbles and perlite. Think that's it. lol

Hi, Dominique. The most disconcerting aspect of the photos you posted to illustrate the condition of your plants' rots is the fact they're not still safely ensconced in an appropriate soil. IOW - now isn't a good time to be bare-rooting your jade plant, unless the operation was undertaken necessarily because the plant was in the very immediate danger of succumbing to unfavorable conditions in the rhizosphere (it had root rot). From the plant's perspective, it would have been better to wait until next June to repot the plants (they didn't need repotting yet) or to switch their soil to something more appropriate. Plants have biological rhythms that, if you work in harmony with, significantly benefit the plant, which is why June is a much better time to repot. The reason is, in fall, the plant is readying itself for a winter of very quiet growth (quiescence). The severe stress of bare-rooting a plant in fall, winter, or early spring ensures a long recovery period and a plant more susceptible to insect and disease infestations due to the reduction in metabolism which also means less efficient defenses. So, if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, you should try to plan your serious work (repotting/ heavy pruning) so it takes place in the month prior to the plants most robust growth period, which ensures the fastest recovery due to high levels of stored energy at that point in time, plus the highest rate of conversion from light energy to chemical energy (photosynthesis) than at any other point in the growth cycle.

Finally, your choice of soil is the foundation every conventional container planting is built on, and the choice has a profound impact on your ability to get the most out of your plants. Soils cover the full gamut in terms of the amount of opportunity they offer your plants to realize their potential - all the way from extremely poor to extremely productive. The links Mike left for you explain soils in detail, and will help you avoid many limitations other growers take for granted as being an intrinsic part of the growing experience. They're not, and avoiding limitations is the only thing that defines our proficiency as growers. So, learn all you can, then use your practical experience to validate what you already know. That's the fastest route to a green thumb.

just a small note of encouragement Domineque - while Al is completely correct (always, and about everything in my experience) with respect timing above - however in this case you were concerned (because people in this thread told you to be) about the plants roots, so it was prudent to pull it out. You're doing great.

Get a bamboo skewer and use it to check moisture level around the roots before watering, and wait until the skewer comes back almost dry before watering again. Probably, your jade just wants to dry out a bit. Depending on the actual material you're growing in (looks like peat, but hard to say from pix), it may take longer than you expect to dry out and be ready for watering.

In the mean time I encourage you to geek out in the container gardening forum with the links Mike left you, and decide how much time you want to put into this. If you decide to take the plunge of making gritty mix or something similar you'll have some time to start sourcing ingredients, which is usually the most difficult part initially.
