Help with bathroom lighting selections
Comments (9)treasuretheday, I am also partial to bling! Your bathroom is very nice and elegant (if you can use that word to describe a bathroom). The Clarissa chandelier is also nice and very similar. I will definitely post pictures, but youâÂÂll be waiting a whileâ¦we havenâÂÂt even broken ground yet! Hopefully weâÂÂll be doing that within the next few weeks. IâÂÂm an obsessive researcher and planner, and want to select things when I have time to give it adequate thought instead of rushing to pick something because the installers are there, if that makes sense. AnnieDeighnaugh, good point about the scale of the sconces. motherof3inct, several of us in this thread seem to be lovers of bling. Interesting point about the finish on the Bryant sconce- I hadnâÂÂt considered that. Karenseb, thanks for weighing in. I think all of the glass will look nice togetherâ¦.at least I hope so. bsmith1- I totally understand your point. That has been my concern. IâÂÂve been leaning towards the Robert Abbey chandelier (option 1) because I love the bling, but I donâÂÂt want to cross the line into too much bling. Lascatx, I could see the dust issue with the capiz. I also feel like I would be more likely to tire of it than the first option. Thanks for making the point about the shine factor/softness of the glass vs. the metal. Now that I consider your point, I can see that the glass sconce option (the Muses) might read as less âÂÂlook at meâÂÂ, if you know what I mean. snookums2, I was aware of the code issue. I donâÂÂt believe that will be an issue in our area, but I may end up putting the chandelier over the main floor area instead of over the tub. The chandelier would be high enough that errant water drops, etc. shouldnâÂÂt be a concern, though. Lzhwong, the mirrors in my post are from Z Gallerie. Restoration Hardware also had some similar mirrors at one point. For a much cheaper option, check out the Martha Stewart Linden Mirror currently on clearance at Home Depot. ItâÂÂs not quite as large, and the sides arenâÂÂt mirrored, but it is a very similar look for much less money. Z Gallerie also has a similar mirror with a beaded detail- The Omni. I'm posting a link for the Reflections mirror below. It looks like the Robert Abbey Bling chandelier is the winner! ThatâÂÂs the one I was leaning toward, so thanks for helping me make up my mind. Sometimes I think about things so long I start to second-guess my decisions, so it is nice to have opinions from others. I think IâÂÂm leaning towards the Robert Abbey the Muses sconce right now, but IâÂÂm going to give that a little more thought and consider scale/shine/softness, as mentioned above. Here is a link that might be useful: Z Gallerie Reflections wall mirror...See MoreHelp me make up my mind, please?
Comments (17)Good idea socks. I did get around one day to giving away the coat that I wore to go away on my honeymoon 33 years ago. Anyone remember those short patterned synthetic fur coats that were all the go in the early 1970's?. It was the most glamorous thing I'd ever owned, and I felt like a movie star in it, or a chubbier version of Jean Shrimpton. LOL. Well, I kept that coat for 20 years, even though I never wore it again, because we moved up here to the tropics. I got it out of storage one day to show my teenage sons, thinking, ha, now they'll see that their Mum was a bit of a groover, and not always frumpy old mum. So what did they do?... went into hysterics! the 13 year old asked in all seriousness, if I'd made it from a lounge chair LOL. The 15 year old wouldn't even touch it, because he claimed it was road-kill, the 19 year old thought I was pulling their leg, and it was part of an old fancy dress costume, and on it went. I gave it to my local craft lady friends for bear-making. They were politer, with sweet comments like, "well, no doubt it looked good back *then* LOL. (This classic one I've been wondering about is very different to that old trendy bit of gear!) Yes, I've been trying to work out a way to use that "penny flipping decision decider" with things that I get stuck on. Throw clothes up in the air, shut my eyes, and if they land on the floor, they go out, if they land on the bed I keep them? Nope, that wouldn't work. I'd need to know I couldn't change my mind for it to be effective. Ok, I could toss them, and yell out when they're up in the air where I want them to land. Nope.. any ideas anyone? How can we apply it? Have I said how much I love this forum.. Oh, that's right I believe I have just mentioned it in passing a few times..:):). But it does bear repeating. I can hardly believe that I have found a place where I can ask about a second hand leather coat and 7 different people care! LOL It's awesome....See MoreShow me your oak floors~ Help needed!
Comments (31)We installed new 3" white oak planks throughout the main part of the house. The stain is a custom mix of 75% Jacobean and 25% Coffee Black. (I was told Coffee Black was the equivalent of Minwax Special Walnut.) I showed my floor guys a couple of pictures of what I wanted, specifically Nini's gorgeous floors, and we worked from there. I wanted the floors to be dark enough to be rich and yummy, but not so dark that every strand of cat hair and crumb would scream at me. I brought a couple of drawers from some of my QS oak antiques to make sure the floor wasn't too matchy-matchy. We ended up with the same formulation as Nini's. Edited to add that I didn't want any red or yellow undertones in my floor. Just a nice, pleasing, rich brown color. My floors are finished in Bona waterborne, which my flooring company swears by. Comments (9)Thanks for the photos. The reason I didn't like the look of the sliding windows is because we are putting wood on the inside so it makes the track stand out. Rhome410...I thought a window like yours would have been a great compromise, but most window companies I have looked at that offer the wood/clad combination do not make a window like yours in the smaller size. Kitchenaddict - Your window looks great. Did you build it out so you could wrap your backsplash over it and make a sill? I don't think I would mind the sliding window (even with the wood) if I can make a ledge like yours, but I am not sure I can since our exterior is brick. littlesmokie - We were not going with casement because there is a deck outside that wraps around the back of the house. Although the kitchen window opens over the larger area, there is a narrow walkway to the right. The window is 57" wide so I think when you opened the windows it would be in the way on the deck....See MoreUser
