I think you should always pick out art you love or at least like a lot.

I can see two pieces of art stacked above the chair and then another piece of art or a mirror on top of the dresser. I would also add a lamp and a little vase or something on top of the the secretary. I love your space!!

I think it would be good if the art pieces had that gold color of the chair in them.

Do you have a narrower wall where the secretary can stand alone? One idea is between windows. My sister has hers there and it looks great.

My gut instinct is that we don't have another spot for the secretary....but I'll mull it over!

I like the idea of stacked pieces above the chair, as long as they don't interfere with the sitter's head! I think a collection of some items on top of the secretary would look great, especially varying heights and sizes. Or skip the art above the chair and add something like a painting to the arrangement, like the last two below:

Great ideas! No one sits in the chair when it is against the wall - that is the "storage" space. We use the chair facing the desk. That's why I think it will be ok to put something on the wall there.

A lot of art you love can "go together" if you know how to arrange and stage it properly. There are a lot of books and maybe even web sites that discuss this that you could get. Also, you can create groupings of things you already have that are artistic. I found a bunch of rusted and non-functional copper pieces in my parents basement that were unusable and basically just junk, but I put them in my kitchen above the kitchen cabinets and grouped together they created a very warm country feel in the kitchen. They were my mom's old copper tea kettle, a set of copper canisters she had, and grandma's wonderful albeit cracked pottery mixing bowls. Throw in a non functional coffee pot made of copper and a corroded salt and pepper set, (which looked OK from a distance) and you had a really cool set of real copper decorations. Their flaws were not visible the way they were arranged. Chances are you can find something like that somewhere, even at a thrift store or antique place, if you don''t have a fertile basement like I did!
