New here! Hi and Please help with furniture arrangement?
Comments (10)Bungalow_House said pretty much what I was going to say. Right now the entryway door is too crowded being boxed in by the couch and with the lamp on the other side of the door. Bad Feng Shui. The TV competes with the BEAUTIFUL stained glass windows where it is now between them. Put the couch under the windows and the lamp next to the couch. It won't look "weird" having the TV not centered onthe other side. Right now the TV is hung too high for comfortable viewing and would need to be lowered anyway if you kept it on that wall. Putting it on a low wide console would be better for viewing and give you more storage which is always needed in a small house. It would also give a place to set keys and gloves down when you enter. I would check further on the fireplace issue. Most often in older homes of this era they put in artificial ones. Even when central heating became the norm people somehow thought they still needed a "fireplace" because that was what they were used to seeing in all homes when they grew up. It does not look to me like there was a flue there but I may be wrong and it is impossible to tell from a photo of the room. I also suspect that the sunroom had glass paned french doors originally and the PO removed them to make the LR seem "bigger". French doors on a sunroom were common. In fact, in homes of this era ALL the rooms had doors, even the kitchen probably had a swing door. (Check the frame for signs.) If they ripped out the FP they probably "modernized" the place and ripped out the french doors. Would you consider replacing them or do you like the open arch. You may be able to get the same style doors back from an architechtural salvage place or maybe get lucky and hear of a neighbor ripping out theirs and you can offer to "take it off their hands" so they don't have to 'pay to haul them away'. Having the doors put back into place will give you some "wiggle room' for placing furniture since you can partially block the arch with furniture if it has a door....See MoreNew! Can you help me arrange furniture in my family room please?
Comments (8)How much seating do you need on a regular basis? I would be inclined to get a leather couch, that would sit to the left of the fireplace, facing the dining area. Sofa table behind the couch, with lamps. Nesting tables at the fireplace end, to be used as needed. Opposite, on the right side of the fireplace, a pair of chairs that recline. No ottomans, as I see that being an obstacle for your son. The recliners let you put your feet up as desired, but are not in the way the rest of the time. A nice table and lamp between the two chairs. No coffeetable needed. The tv moves to the stairway wall, where the couch is now. Wall mounted or on an entertainment stand. If there is room for the bookcase beside it, fine, but I have a feeling that wonâÂÂt work, in part because I believe I see the thermostat there. In that case, you could put another chair against the wall for extra seating. with a wall-mounted swing arm lamp beside it, and a narrow table next to it. I wouldnâÂÂt necessarily drywall in the space over the fireplace - it could be a cool display niche, especially if you could add some lighting into the top of it....See MorePlease help arrange living room furniture in a new house!!!!
Comments (4)To visually open up the room I would suggest lighter drapes close to the wall color without a pattern or with a self pattern. I would remove the stair ladder deal in the corner (they were a passing trend) and clear the TV chest of everything. Consider doing a grouping of pictures around the TV and above it to fill in that area and give the room some needed visual interest. Beverly's layout is very nice, although I've personally found that darker drapes tend to close in a room, but it's your preference. I would consider a rug an absolute must....See MoreFurniture Arrangement Help Please :)
Comments (4)Beautiful sofa. Can you move the old sofa to the den? Consider moving the gray credenza to the wall where the mirror is and moving the TV to that wall and lower. Then you could have some art of the fireplace and a better view angle. A rug is needed to ground the space. I like the chairs in this inspiration picture but two swivel chairs would be good in your room also. The mirror reminds me of your mirror. I like the small round table for you and/or some c-tables. You will need some patterned/textured throw pillows, too....See MoreUser
