Can you float the sofa? Move it closer to tv so that you create a wide enough walkway behind the sofa. If there is enough space you can place a narrow table either directly behind sofa or along wall where sofa is now. Right now the living room acts as a halway between sunroom and dining room. By moving sofa forward you can create alternative route behind sofa.
A long and low entertainment center below tv would be nice. You could also invest in an entertainment center that holds the plasma within and has a mechanical lift to raise tv. So you can hide tv when you want. Hooker furniture has these.

These small living rooms without much wall space are a real bear to arrange furniture in, especially if you're trying to work tv viewing in too. My living room has similar openings and it took me a few months of constant furniture shoving to find some workable layouts.

My first thought is the tv might work better where your couch is now. Sorry, I know it's already wired and mounted, but if you switched the couch and tv, it wouldn't seem as crowded around the front door (which is beautiful, by the way!). It would also make the empty space in front of it do double-duty as a walkway and buffer zone between the seating and the tv. Double-duty for walkways like that is crucial, I think, in a small house.

In my first house, which was also a bungalow, we actually only had a tv in our bedroom and didn't have one in the living room. It worked fine for us, maybe not an option for you, but thought I would throw it out there. I do not have a tv in my living room (or anywhere else for that matter) in my current house. If we do get one someday, it will definitely be a small one that I can tuck in the living room somewhere without having to re-arrange furniture around it.

The only other advice I have is when you get other chairs, etc., remember to make them small scale, which is almost impossible to find new these days, but it makes a huge difference in fitting them into rooms like yours. If you like "vintage" furniture, you'll have better luck finding smaller pieces. Your couch looks relatively new, so maybe replacing it isn't an option, but a smaller one would give you more options in your room. (I have a small loveseat instead of full-size couch in my current living room.)

I'm sure others will have some good suggestions for you. Keep working it, and you'll find a good arrangement eventually!

I would love to float the sofa, but it's too big and the living room too narrow at 11 feet wide. It would literally block traffic or be wayyy too close to the tv.

I think bungalow_house is right. My only option may be to put the couch on the wall where the stained glass windows are, even if the tv would not be straight in front of the sofa and would be off center.

The reason we have the tv in the living room is because there's no family room. We have a semi finished basement that we intend to make the family room eventually, but for now, it's not insulated and has terazzo floors, making it very, very cold.

Also, I would love to leave the tv in the bedroom, but this bungalow is quite the fixer upper. There is a second floor (extended attic), but it was renovated back in the 60s. It was turned into an inlaws' quarters of sorts complete with a yellow and green kitchen, hot pink bathroom, and faux brick style carpeting.

In other words, there's plenty of space up there that will be converted into large bedrooms and a bath, but for now, we are living just downstairs in two rather small bedrooms (one for our toddler, one for us).

Our bedroom is all of 10x11, with a tiny closet. We had to put in a wardrobe, which takes up some space. Between the wardrobe, night stands, and the bed, there's no room to put a tv anywhere. Even if we hang it on the wall, it would be uncomfortable to watch.

3dgrad's suggestion is worth a shot, but I don't think there is enough room to float it in that direction. I tried something like that in my room. It's just too narrow. With a loveseat instead of a full-size sofa, however, you might be able to float it in the longer dimension of the room where the glider is right now, without walking into it when you come in the door. Then you could also float a couple of chairs opposite it, and have the fireplace and tv on the long walls. ?

A bungalow in Oak Park -- how wonderful! But the problems with 1920s homes: 1) their rooms are of an entirely different scale than modern furniture and 2) they didn't contemplate the desire for a television. I have had three 1920s homes and struggled with these same issues.

I think threedgrad was onto something with floating the sofa. But I'll add to that by saying I think you need to consider a different sofa, scaled more to the small room. I'm also curious about your intended use for the "sunroom." With the large opening from the LR into the sunroom, it is almost as though it is intended to be used all as one room . . . but not quite. By pulling the sofa toward the TV wall you will lose some of the wide access to the sunroom, but I don't think that will be a big deal.

With a sofa of less length, the glider/rocker can be at an angle also viewing the TV. Then maybe a chair and ottoman in the corner of the TV Wall and the dining room entry, facing the sofa but not the TV. Pulling the furniture closer to the TV may mean you should lower the TV a bit on the wall.

Another option would be to flip the whole thing. Put the TV on the front door wall where the sofa is now. Then the sofa can back into the old fireplace wall where it is out of the traffic pattern.

Bungalow_House said pretty much what I was going to say. Right now the entryway door is too crowded being boxed in by the couch and with the lamp on the other side of the door. Bad Feng Shui. The TV competes with the BEAUTIFUL stained glass windows where it is now between them. Put the couch under the windows and the lamp next to the couch. It won't look "weird" having the TV not centered onthe other side. Right now the TV is hung too high for comfortable viewing and would need to be lowered anyway if you kept it on that wall. Putting it on a low wide console would be better for viewing and give you more storage which is always needed in a small house. It would also give a place to set keys and gloves down when you enter.

I would check further on the fireplace issue. Most often in older homes of this era they put in artificial ones. Even when central heating became the norm people somehow thought they still needed a "fireplace" because that was what they were used to seeing in all homes when they grew up. It does not look to me like there was a flue there but I may be wrong and it is impossible to tell from a photo of the room.

I also suspect that the sunroom had glass paned french doors originally and the PO removed them to make the LR seem "bigger". French doors on a sunroom were common. In fact, in homes of this era ALL the rooms had doors, even the kitchen probably had a swing door. (Check the frame for signs.)

If they ripped out the FP they probably "modernized" the place and ripped out the french doors. Would you consider replacing them or do you like the open arch. You may be able to get the same style doors back from an architechtural salvage place or maybe get lucky and hear of a neighbor ripping out theirs and you can offer to "take it off their hands" so they don't have to 'pay to haul them away'. Having the doors put back into place will give you some "wiggle room' for placing furniture since you can partially block the arch with furniture if it has a door.

the sunroom...I was thinking of putting two nice chairs and a small bookcase/table between them with a lamp.

As for putting the sofa in front of the entry to the sunroom, I tried, but it really is too big. The sofa is 7 feet long or about 85 inches long, and the opening into the sunroom is a little under 8 feet. Even if I pulled the couch in more toward the tv wall, which would look awkward (I tried), there is very little space to go into the sunroom.

My gut was to just get a smaller sofa, but with the renovations we have to do upstairs, I figure I should save the money, work around the sofa, and more furniture to work with it.

None of the other furniture presently in the living room are part of the living room. Those pieces actually go in my son's room--the glider and apothecary type table, that is.

I think my options are--get a smaller sofa, possibly float it in the middle of the room or perpendicular to the tv wall in front of the sunroom, and get two chairs to put across the sofa
OR
stick with my sofa, put it on the wall where the tv is now, put two chairs one on each side of the sofa, and put the tv on the front door wall.

All your suggestions just confirm that if I don't want to get a new couch, there's no way around switching the tv. lol...thank you so much!

Now I just have to find smallish chairs to put on either side of the tv, meaning one by the entry to the sunroom and one by the entry to the dining room. I need a coffee table or ottoman of sorts that is smallish and a media center/dresser/bookcase type furniture piece to put under the tv on the front door wall.

Any suggestions as to the chairs? Something that might go with that couch and would lighten up the room?

I would definitely switch the couch and tv. You don't want the first thing people see when they enter your house is the tv. In the long run, I think you'll be much happier with it that way.

I live in an older house and our living room has similar issues. I agree with the suggestion of switching the tv and the sofa. It won't look strange to have the tv off-center on the entry wall. You can make the tv's placement look right by its relation to the door (i.e. centering it between the door frame and the other end of the wall) or its relation to other pieces of furniture.

My current LR arrangement is similar to what you're thinking about; sofa's on a wall with two windows, tv is on the opposite wall which has a doorway opening to the stairs and a study. It looks fine (imho!). Once I figure out my photobucket login info, I'll post a picture in case that helps.
