Help with Chandelier in Foyer
I am in desperate help of finding a chandelier for our foyer. The foyer is a 2-story foyer with an open staircase and the house has a pretty open floor plan.
The exterior of the home is a craftsman style home. With that said, on the interior I like the looks of rustic / industrial / contemporary. Most of the interior such as cabinets, staircase spindles, baseboards & trim, etc have hard clean lines.
For what it's worth, there will be distressed medium to dark hardwood throughout the first floor. All of the door hardware is satin nickel.
Since there is a lot of hard lines already in the interior, I was wondering if I should soften up the inside with an orb chandelier??? By no means am I an interior designer so any and all advise or suggestions is appreciated.

Comments (0)We need help deciding on what type of chandelier for our tall sloped ceiling and what to hang on the walls of our foyer. You can see the chandelier from the foyer. It needs to provide enough light but not be too “fancy“ for my husband or too bulky because we want it to not interfere with the view from the foyer through to the back yard. Our plan: -foyer railings stained darker -walls painted in both rooms after the new fixture is installed. It’s a very neutral color now. -possibly have foyer cabinet painted or grey washed -add something above doors? 8 years agoRustic to may have been the wrong word to describe my style as a Western style isn't my thing. I'm much more into the industrial look....think old warehouses with distressed wood floors, exposed beams, steel supports, etc. However, I do like adding touches of a modern / contemporary look with patterns and shapes as well.
My hardwood floors are a distressed medium / dark brown, interior doors are white and all door hardware is satin nickel. Does it matter if the chandelier matches the door hardware in color? Since the ceiling fan in the living room will be visible from the foyer, I am assuming that the chandelier and ceiling fan should compliment each other in style and color, correct?

8 years agoThe first one you posted in your last post , I have a similar light and the glass gets really dusty quickly. It would be hard for you to dust up there so just something to think about.

8 years agoHave you chosen your stair railing yet? wood balusters? wrought iron? cables? stainless? What about the finish on the track hardware for the barn door - black or stainless? Those decisions may affect whether to lean toward traditional or contemporary for the chandelier.
After choosing a stainless steel stair railing, I selected the Moooi Heracleum II LED fixture for my foyer and a Minka Aire pancake ceiling fan in brushed nickel for the living room.

8 years agoThe stair railing will be wood balusters. The stair newels will be stained a merlot color (dark brown with a hint of red) as well as the hand rail. The balusters will be painted white. The first image below is similar to what I will have.
I would have loved to go with something like in the second picture. However, it was a custom built staircase and my builder was on me to get something picked out and ordered ASAP. So this may be an upgrade down the road.
Odds are the barn door hardware will be black.
I am leaning toward the chandelier in the bottom picture. Thoughts?

8 years agoFYI, this is the ceiling fan that I am considering for the living room. Since the space is pretty open the ceiling fan the chandelier will be visible at the same time. The fan is 6 ft in diameter and will hug pretty close to the 18 ft ceiling.
