Your foyer sounds exactly like mine, actually, yours might be a touch larger. I currently have a huge fixture in that space. I believe the original owners chose it to fill the large window, and fill it does! We call it the big brass spider. I'm struggling with getting rid of it because its a gorgeus real brass fixture (and priced at $3k new on Progress Lighting website), but I feel its far too large. It has 3 tiers, 21 lights total and trips the breaker if I have it on and try to vacuum the hall. Now, my fixture is 48 inches wide, and it is far too large. But I think 36 would work for me, and I think from what your describing, my foyer is slightly smaller than yours. Here is a link that might be useful: The big Brass Spider

We are beyond disappointed in our architect. It has been a very frustrating process! I feel like we are at the point of no return though. We will be speaking with him tomorrow and we make a final decision then. To answer a couple of questions: the two staircases are bc the one in the playroom leads to an attic bedroom and the one in the mud room is going to a home office above the garage - it was supposed to be moved to the garage but wasn’t (more frustration). The Murphy door will likely be removed. I so badly wanted it to work out and thought it’d be a really cool feature but it’s making things more complicated. Again, the centering of the door was my idea to help the elevation work a little better. I would love for him to play around with the porch area/foyer to “make it work” but that’s just not who is is. Had I known this, we never would have hired him. Luckily I have a friend who has been very helpful (done most of the design work) but we’re both stumped here. Thank you everyone for the replies! If we end up changing dramatically I’ll post an update.

Today we met with the builder and we told him to take out the 5 foot closet right by the front door. This will create a 6 foot centered opening to the den/office with a 3 foot wall on either side . We are going to put a 3 foot closet down on the left right before you enter the rest of the house . It will butt into the bedroom there but they are going to make that all work :). I’ll post the new layout when I get it. I think this will open up the area a lot more. Then with additional ceiling lighting and some great decor and trim I think it’ll look good.
