Can I get your thoughts on these leather sofas?
Comments (25)Have you mapped out the size of those particular pieces in your room? They look rather massive to me and might be a bit overwhelming. You may do well to get the leather couch alone and a complementary fabric chair/ottoman set or loveseat to lighten up the weight/mass - I really wish we had done that when we bought our leather stuff, because even in the larger LR we had when we bought it it was still "too much enough already" to have big leather couch plus big leather chair/ottoman. Although I prefer their color, I think the brown pieces have a strange exaggerated shape to the arm that seems very trendy to me, not classic, and given how long leather furniture tends to last (and how stinkin' much it costs! LOL) I think it's far better to go classic. Also, with many leather-furniture companies you can have different leathers from just what's on the floor at the store. When we bought our leather furniture (Bradington-Young) we spent about ten minutes choosing the style and an hour and a half picking out the leather! :-) Other options like changing the feet, nailheads and nailhead colors, seat-cushion composition, etc. are also often available....See MoreWood floor with cat & dog?
Comments (13)Ok Sister I hear ya! It was proababy my post about needing to go with stone instead of the dark wood i really want. And Im a Libra too!!! We had wood throughout our entire downtstairs, a light hand sitressed maple in the kitchen and FR and a dark pre-distressed wood in our LR and Dining. We had a slab leak and now it's all gone. We loved the dark wood in SO much and will put it back. The draw backs for it were that it only looked clean & beautiful, the day the cleaning lady was there (and that's not often enough for me) we have 3 cats and a 50LB dog and hair & pawprints just get everywhere immediately. Since im not in the rooms very often i could easily let it go. And will again. here's pic of the floor clean... and that floor with said kitty and dirt...same day but in the kitchen that particular wood was a constant problem with water, my kids would constantly drop water and the boards would swell and separate... it looked terrible and i was always freaking out about it. It being a light wood, was very forgiving with dirt, hair and crumbs, but i want the same dark and i know it will show every single thing and never look shiny. here's that floor I would love to hear that i just had crappy wood and to go with wood. But the dirty factor is probably too much for me. In my mudroom, we put in travertine and its great - doesn't show anything - ever!!! clean or dirty it looks the same.. here's an arty pic my DH took hahah it works with these white cabs and wood counter but i want a cooler stone look in the kitchen and im worried the stone wont go, but i've seen pics that i think work beautifully! We are also going to do underfloor heating. GL - i feel your indecisive pain!...See MoreFirefox Stylish add on to customize your Garden Web site
Comments (22)I don't know how it is on a Mac, but on a PC I have found it for the three browsers I use: Firefox, Chrome, and Opera. I also installed it for Firefox on an Android tablet, and it works there too. I think there are less options on the tablet though. Very few use Opera, so I will elaborate on the others. In my Firefox and Chrome on the PC all the way in the upper right below the close window button there is a button that looks like three horizontal lines. Click that to see more menus. In Firefox you want to select "Add-ons" then search for add-ons. In Chrome select "More Tools", then "Extensions", then go to get more extensions. Search for "Stylish" made by userstyles.org, the logo is a white S with color blocks behind it. Install it. Then on your browser toolbar there will be a button with an S on it. When you are on a website that you want to see if there are any styles for, just click it to find styles for that site. You can pick a style and install it which just means copying some stylesheet text to your computer that is applied just when you visit that site. You can use the button in the toolbar to toggle the style on and off, and even use multiple styles on the same site. I made one to change color and font, and another to experiment with layout, but have both enabled at the same time. You can update or remove the styles and the add-on at any time. Anyone can create and submit a style to the site, and you can always change the style after it is on your computer too if you know a little css code. I just found a good color selector that gives you the color codes to use either for handcoding or entering into the form at userstyles before downloading the styles with options. I made my default style with grey because it was easier on my eyes, but it is very blah. The other ones are dressier. http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp Probably more than you want to know, but I thought it would be helpful for anyone not familiar with installing add-ons. Stylish has been helpful to me. At first I tried just darkening my screen to avoid the eye strain, but that just made all the pictures too dark to see....See Morestylish, professional, durable, outdoorsy clothing
Comments (54)I have gaiters. At least one, maybe two, I can't quite remember. And two pairs of gortex pants to pull over regular ones, but they are almost too small now, sigh. Don't know where I put the gaiters. That's another issue too, lack of organized storage in my house, particularly clothing. Of course I'm trying and working on all fronts . . . My main problem is I used to be able to afford good quality clothes and I have been running on the fumes of having them for quite a few years. Plus I inherited some clothes from my Mom, although her stuff is a tad too nice for field work. But I can't wear her pants she was too short, (although I do wear some of her summer pants as capris, lol). I am running out of pants both due to wear and an expanding lower half. I regularly shop the Goodwill and local Salvation Army and also resale shops. I've gotten some great pieces, but honestly most folks don't give up durable, practical clothing, that stuff they keep until it is in tatters. I used to have quite the set of bandanas for my looks, those are the ones I would have to wear. I could invest in a few more. I have a lovely collection of silk scarves I inherited from my Mom, but I could never wear them to work and expect them to stay nice. Among the many things I have to accomplish at my house, is breaking down my Mother's closet. I have no great wish to keep it as a shrine to her, but I can't see just tossing or jumbling all the lovely clothes she had in there so meticulously organized. She has a beautiful wardrobe all organized by clothing type and color, so she could easily put together exquisite outfits. My mother never left the house looking less than stellar. But she was the opposite of me in her work world, she was a librarian and avoided anything messy, noisy or physical. I don't need suggestions on what to do with it, I have sources for donations, etc. I just need the time. I have recently been sorting through some old photos of my Mom at work. I still have all her exquisite classic wool and suede suits and silk shirts, but folks don't dress like that for work anymore, sigh . . ....See Moretibbrix
