Options to use on place of existing sliding closet doors
Comments (13)If you do try curtains, use curtain rings. If you use the rod pocket to hang the curtains, it is somewhat difficult to slide the curtains back and forth. The few times I've seen this, the curtains mostly stay open all the time. But if you use rings, the curtains will slide back and forth easily. You can whisk the curtains apart, and then close them with a sweep of your hand. If you'd rather have doors, why not get a handyman to give you an estimate of how expensive it would be to alter pre-fab doors to fit your closet? It sounds like the only thing keeping you from doors is the extra work involved. If you really want doors and don't want to do the work, it might be worth paying someone to do it for you....See MoreCloset doors when converting closet opening in older house
Comments (31)The closet in my master is 29 inches deep. Then I have 3 other closets upstairs like this in my sons' rooms and the guest rooms. Those closets are 22, 23, and 24 inches deep. I'm standing in front of them now and thinking that if I had shelves on the sides and a bar across connecting them....well, if they were jammed packed like I have some of these closets then it might be annoying trying to move past the hangers to reach the shelves. It depends on how much stuff is in there. Looking at it now, I think I have actual "dead space" above my bar. There is so much room between the shelf above the bar and the ceiling that if I was to change my closet right now I might just keep the bar across and add cubbies above the bar for my bulky sweaters. I really don't find reaching into the side space to be that annoying. I noticed in my husbands closet he has his suits in the side space. He only wears suits at weddings and funerals. He also keeps the ironing board in there. We don't iron often. Apparently I never do bc I just now learned that's where we keep it. Lol. I don't think that little bit of "wasted space" is worth such a huge overhaul. As long as it's lit well and the doors are good (I can't say enough how much of a difference it was going from sliders and bifold doors in my last house to doors that swing open). And we have good lighting in the closet which makes it easier to see all the way into the side space. For the record, I hang 90% of my clothes. I only fold sweaters and undergarments. So having just hanging bar isn't so bad for me....See MoreKitchen windows - to use blinds or to use curtains?
Comments (15)Hi Bev! Thanks, I really fell in love with it! I love the edit of the garden/lawn! (Can't wait until that grows in!) And the decor on the table. That is certainly true that those elements will bring the space the color it so desperately needs. I'll have to really take a look at the options between Roman Shades and bottom up/top down shades. I have never had any need for window treatments until now, so I have a lot to learn! Oh yes, that is just a temporary rug, an 8x10 should be making it's way in the mail tomorrow! Of course, I went with a light grey one so maybe I should think of exchanging for something with some color. Appreciate the input!...See MoreAnyone use a regular curtain rod to hang a shower curtain?
Comments (5)Actually had two shower curtains on my alcove shower. One was a fixed shower curtain that was hung on an exterior rod from wall to wall. It had a valance and two fixed panels, one on either side. Then, I had another shower curtain. This was a plain white cloth curtain that was on the rod. It was on rings that also included a plastic curtain for water protection. So....two rods. An exterior one. That was covering my end walls/tiles. Then, a regular bath rod that held both a fabric outer curtain and a plastic one. We no longer have this system or I would post a photo. But, yes...it can be done!...See More- 8 years ago
