The software is installed, but when I scan a document to my computer, I can not write on it. I even tried to re-install the software but still nothing. A friend at work told me to scan and send it to paperport, I either don't have this or I am just too computer illiterate to understand what he is talking about.

Hi everyone, thanks for your info. DA, I only use a BW alternative when the copy needs to have a professional appearance, the item being scanned is on colored paper; i.e. yellow or pink receipts, or if I have advanced notice that the document will be duplicated. The document was to be duplicated and that is why I set it to black and white. Have you tried saving the scan as a rich text? Or better yet a HTML file? No I am not sure how to do that. I think it is automatically set up but without looking I am not sure. I will have to try it out again and see about that. What does setting it to rich text or HTML file do? Urlee, I usually save as a file. Then send as an attachment. I use grayscale opposed to black & white. I did save it as a file, right clicked and sent it as an attachment to my email. I am thinking that it didn't scan right and the preview is to small for me to actually make it out. Owbist, It was not a colored document nor was it a photo as stayed above. It was a very important document that I was trying to send back to a company. They sent it to me I was to sign it and return it back to them. I had done it many times before and no one had said it was fuzzy until this last time. That's what made me think that maybe I had changed a setting when working with something else and I was trying to figure out how to change it back. Bob, I can't see the logic in saving a B&W document as a BMP file. I prefer to scan in either gray scale or picture and saving in JPG, and if its going to be edited then I'll OCR to text. "LOL" with me logic has nothing to do with it, I just used what was there without fully understanding it all. How do you OCR to text? I see OCR but am not sure what it does. For everyone to know I did a project for my sister using pictures of her deceased husband and arranging them in a certain order. He was retired military and I wanted to do something very special for her. It all turned out nicely and she was very happy with it. It was after I did the project that the text became fuzzy and that is why I am thinking I must have changed the settings because I was doing the project and scanning the pictures and saving it to my scans file & now I can't seem to figure out how to get it back like it was. I was trying to email it to her and making changes as I went and finally had to just print it out and take it to her when I went to the service. Maybe I should ask what the standard settings should be when doing normal text that you want to email to someone, that wants to print it out on their end. I don't think it is the scanner nor the printer, I think it is something that I changed. I don't know what the normal settings should be are they the same with all scanners? This looks MAJOR cool ---- I just added it to our phones. This will be really useful since we both do the grocery shopping whenever we get the chance. I really like the recipe feature that it has on it. That should cut down on those extra trips back to the store for one more item.
