1800s House & Barn - Front Door Paint Suggestions!

Alyssa Holdeman

After buying the house 5 years ago, I painted our then-white front doors (there are 3) a green-gray. I still like the color-- natural, goes with any season's decor-- but we've repainted the house with a fresh coat of white, so I'm thinking a change is in order.

The contenders seem to be in the charcoal, wheat/yellow, and brick red families.

A few conditions:

  • I hesitate to make a seasonal decision (i.e., Pumpkin spice would be so pretty with my Fall wreath! Red would be gorgeous at Christmas!)
  • Our house is white, so anything "goes," but we have mainly pinks, greens, purples, hydrangeas in the landscape. Charcoal is my 'safe' (and currently preferred) choice, but it looks so "blah" from the road.
  • We have a huge wood barn out back. The metal roof is a light green color.
  • Eventually, we'd like to renovate and coordinate the barn window/door trim (currently wood now, but eventually white? a color?) to compliment the house.

Ok... opinions? Suggestions? My poor friends & family can't take my mulling any longer.

Thanks!
