curleelocks, "rather large tadpoles", could mean either Bullfrogs or Green frogs [or depending on where you reside, Cane toads, which is not good]. Both Bullfrog and Green frog tadpoles can take up to two [or three]years to change into frogs. The tadpoles, whatever type they are,will survive quite well in that unfiltered pond. But there is nothing to stop you from staring up the filtering system. Be sure they cannot be sucked into the pump, by having a screen over the intake side. Since they mostly eat algae and decomposing plant matter, they will have lots to eat in there. You could carry on using the mosquito dunks, as they are supposed to be harmless to tadpoles, etc. Check on the dunk package wrapper to be sure. I would suggest you "Google search" Bullfrogs and/or Green frogs for more information on them. The Bullfrog tends to eat [or tries to eat] everything that moves, including other frogs, birds, fish etc. Personally, I rather have Green frogs around my pond than Bullfrogs, though they too will eat smaller frogs. Bullfrogs, to me, are just a bit too aggresive toward other small creatures, and have desimated the other populations of other types frogs, wherever they settled or have been introduced to, by humans. I agree completely with Ginkgonut - neighbor #1 planted a, so named, 'Annabelle' that turned out to be 'White Dome' but beautiful bush with very lovely powderpuff domes ... neighbor #2 planted hers in a shaded E facing (gets some AM sun) didn't grow as tall as mine but heftier & loaded!!! Mine a (2nd season) in a slope, N facing foundation bed ... a giant & full of saucer sized pom-poms. We went through one record-breaking 'Killing-Winter' as well as a Spring & early Summer of mostly days of rain/storms, but when the sun shows up, they were unbearably hot/steamy/scorching days ... cooked many a beautiful foliage & those tender young blossoms! Â:( I'm glad I learned in this forum, about installing a reasonable size cage on Annabelle, she would have splayed all over otherwise! Good luck in resolving your Annabelle problems! Â;)

To the Chairman of the SD Rose Show. We would like you to reiterate the logistics for exhibiting at your show. Specifically: 1. Are you still suggesting that exhibitors arrive at 5AM for a 9:30AM deadline for entries? That is 4.5 hrs which is way too much time. Since you may not be able to get the judges there earlier for an earlier deadline how about doing something exhibitor friendly like promising to give out the awards at 12Pm on saturday rather than forcing the exhibitors to return (if they win after spending a grueling long Saturday in traffic going to and leaving the show) on Sunday for a 3 pm award ceremony. 2. Have the water & parking problems been resolved? If so please advise resolutions. Mr. Chairman, your show sounds like a very tough one for exhibitors and simply not worth the effort. We have many nice friends in the San Diego area and we were looking forward to going to your show. However, unless the logistics situation changes we (and many of our fellow exhibitors )are either going to bakersfield or going to stay home. Mr. Chairman, if you changed the awards ceremony to saturday afternoon so that exhibitors would not have to return on sunday perhaps it might sway some exhibitors to go your show. I for one would definitely consider it. At this stage of the game it is clear that you cannot change the date of your show which is in conflict with not just another rose show but now in conflict with the March of Dimes, Earth day, and who knows what else. However, one item in your control is the awards presentation. We have heard that many have requested that SDRS change this awards policy. Now is the time to show some appreciation for the exhibitor who will be getting up at 1AM to be there by 5AM(speaking for myself). Finally wrt your comments about Chris Greenwood. In my opinion and I am sure shared by many rose people in Southern California & in the PSWD Chis is an outstanding and dedicated Rosarian who is not deserving of your abuse.

Your table is screaming for a tablecloth. As others have said, the room has a very formal, elegant feel. (I like that). Follow that feel with your table and everything will look great Worry less about the walls and windows... focus your attention where your guests I will be! A book I heartily recommend to anyone: "The Art of the Table, a Complete Guide to Table Setting, Table Manners, and Tableware" by Suzanne von Drachenfels c. 2000, Simon & Schuster. This book explains it all, with great good humor, and tells you how to "make do" when you don't have all the proper "stuff" and/or are unsure about how to pull it all together. I see a lovely tablecloth (over a hushcloth, to deaden the table noise), with napkins to either "match" or provide a SUBTLE contrast. A simple centrepiece (a cornucopia with some fruit?) or NOT, depending on the available space on your table; maybe a discreet pair of candlesticks? Your "best" china and flatware; OR whatever you HAVE but sparkling clean and laid with care as to how far from the table's edge, everything in alignment, napkins crisply pressed and neatly folded THE SAME WAY AT EVERY PLACE. The most important thing is that you pay attention to detail. You can mix and match to your heart's content, but beautiful tables begin and end with attention to detail.
