Do you not like frogs and toads? Most toads are born in the water and will morph and leave the pond because they are terrestial. Frogs, depending on what species, will morph and some may claim your pond as a permanent home. You won't end up with 1000's of frogs in your pond (well unless you have a huge farm pond) as many will not survive and those that do will sort themselves out as to where they go to live. It is futile to drain your pond when you get frogs and toads doing what comes natural. Let them do their thing! Nature will take care of itself.

hahaha... well, its not that i dont LIKE frogs, im just curious to know if they are OK to live with my gold fish... and after they transform, what will happen with all those frogs...
i mean, i could live WITHOUT frogs, it wouldnt hurt my feelings... but to have them dont bother me that much... they are quiet noisy... lol

this will be my first FULL summer for ponding, so im curious about these kinds of things...

I would love tadpoles, I am so envious when I hear about the tons of tadpoles that people write in about... I'm sure that you won't have alot left when all is said and done they seem to be a favorite food of many animals.

The toads just keep on laying eggs. I have a bazillion tadpoles of different "ages". Some have already turned into teeny tiny little toads (so cute) & left.

When are they going to stop?
At least they eat algae.

well then, thats some good info... thanks to everyone that has helped ease my mind about the little critters... now, i guess we will just sit back and watch them transform, or be eatin, which ever happens first... hahahaha

I have them by the thousands every year. Wonderful to watch them transform. The fish seem to be indifferent to them and never seen the fish eat one, Interesting to watch them exit in mass. Right now there is a food competition as the tadpoles like the fish food as well.You know your pond is healthy by the fact that the pond will keep tadpoles to adult hood. First year mistake was I had no way for them to leave the pond. Now I set up a rock ladder to the outside world when the time comes close.

We have bullfrogs, toads and leopard frogs. May have other breeds too but that is all I've seen. Years ago we had a couple of frogs and every year they come back and bring friends. We have a few that live in the skimmer year round. The frogs/toads eat mosquitos/larvae so they are good to have. The bullfrog tadpoles are huge and the fish don't bother them, but I'm certain that the koi eat the smaller tadpoles because there will be lots one day and the next there are only a few and they are still in the tadpole stage. We joke about our frogs as they can be very, very noisy for several days and then they get quiet and then we have tadpoles. We usually have 5 to 6 batches every year. We enjoy trying to find the strings of eggs and watching the whole process of tadpoles to frogs.

i have 2 ponds in my yard with plants and fish. i drained the kids pool for the winter and was going to fill it up again for the kids as it was going to be 90 this week. the pool has about 3 inches of water in it from the rain. it is full of tadpoles. some are large and have their back legs already, but some are still babies. can i move them to one of my ponds without hurting them? so i can ready the pool for the kids. problem 2: i was hanging clothes out on the clothes line yesterday and a million termite "flies" came buzzing by me. they were coming from a stump in the empty lot next to me. i was going to put bleach on it (i heard that will clear them up) but there were a lot of lizards on it eating the "flies" so i did nothing. i do not want any termites in my yard...what do i do? thanks cindy
