Do the letters lag or some don't register immediately while you type? If the letters come out ok but it's just spaces missing, I'd say either you're not hitting the space bar hard enough or there's something wrong with that key.

Thank you for attempting to help me. Sometimes .the letters do lag, but not all the time. I believe that the problem is with the space bar. It kind of makes a click--but I don't know what to do about it other than get a new keyboard. Barb

Hopefully it's a recent enough purchase that you can return the keyboard (it's a desktop?).

If it's a laptop, a fix will be a tad more complicated but not much, I believe the keyboard sections on many are modular (ie, replaceable).

Assuming you can type properly, there's no reason you should have to "slow down" on a new computer. It's possible there is something wrong with the keyboard but there might be enough going on the in the background that's slowing things down to the point where in interferes with you typing. Is this only online (like responding to a message here) or does it happen with, for example, software like Word too?

Are you noticing anything else odd about the computer's behavior? Try rebooting into Safe Mode and see if the problem goes away.

Even though it's new...it [the keyboard] may need new, up-to-date drivers. Check to see if that's the case and then see if your typing experience improves. Often these little glitches are simple to correct.

Agree it sounds like a keyboard problem, if it's just the space bar. It it's a laptop, get it addressed right away, if you at all can. It could be a pain if you have to send it out ---- but one tiny problem just may hint at something that could get bigger. (If it's just one key, my sense is it's unlikely to be a software problem. Always possible, but for a laptop, not a problem.) If it's a stand alone plug in keyboard ---- it's easy to swap out. IF it's a pricey keyboard, find a super cheap one and see if your keyboarding become 'more normal'.

Does this problem happen while on the Internet, using Word, etc... or does it just happen on the internet? Always good to know a few more details! My problem is totally misspelling words, I'm thinking ahead and type letters of what I'm thinking about, not the letters I should be typing. Hard to explain, always have to read back and edit my posts!

If it's just your Space Bar it could be that you're just not striking the Key perfectly. Try to pay attention when you're Typing, especially to the Space Bar! If when paying attention you notice you're having trouble with more than the Space Bar, it may be Software running in the Background, like your Anti-Virus Program. Many computers slow down and don't respond the same when the AV Program is scanning. Usually more RAM will remedy this problem (not always though).

If it is just the Space Bar it is Highly likely that you have a problem with the Space Bar on that Keyboard. Best Option is to Replace the Keyboard! Wired Keyboards are relatively cheap! Wireless keyboards are usually a little more expensive!

As stated above, Laptop Keyboards are a little more complicated but relatively cheap. New Laptop Keyboards can be purchased on Ebay for around $16-$30. On many new Laptops the Keyboards are very easy to replace. Usually a couple Screws on the Bottom of the computer and then a Ribbon Cable to unplug and plug back in! Some older models are a little more complicated. Type your model number into YouTube and see if there is a Video for replacing the keyboard on your model laptop! Usually pretty easy to follow the Videos on YouTube!
